On This Day

Monica Seles, the top-ranked women's player, was stabbed in the back during a changeover at the Citizen Cup in Hamburg, Germany. She sustained an inch-deep slit between her shoulder blades and missed the rest of the 1993 season.

i was a kid, and i watched it. Picture on Tv just vanished. Next i saw Maleeva shaking, and Monika taken to hospital, she even managed to wave to public. I was crying for days. Just after that, there were breaking news on TV. People were shocked, and by war still going on, it was a kick in the heart. Poor poor Monika. We want you back soon!!!!
