I guess it is safe to say that Amanda Coetzer has retired.

Although I was never really a 'fan' of Amanda, I always think it's sad to see players (especially top players) just fade away, rather than make it known that they are going to call it a day and allow the fans to appreciate them one last time.

She deserves a proper farewell from the fans and the tour, so hopefully she will play a few more tournaments or something. It would seem a bit of a shame otherwise.

Any if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!

But he loves you."

True...but i guess she feels she has done enough with her amazing career...as i look at her bio on WTA.COM i am still amazed at all of the wins she had over current no 1s and how many years she played in the year end championships ( NINE IN A ROW!!! ) and being only 5ft 2 is a fete in itself! ....also..she really did not "fade away"...she ended last year a very respectable 25 in the world..it was only these last 3 tourneys that she performed poorly and then withdrew from 6 str8 tournyes ( including not defending her FINALS points from 2003 in Memphis)....Good luck Mandy in EVERYTHING you do..none of these little girls of today can hold a flame to ya when u were in your prime ( an amazing 12 year prime..10 of those in the top 20..the other 2 at #21 and #25!!!! ) ..

Sorry FraziersFan, I didn't mean by 'fade away' that Amanda has trailed off a lot these past few years - She's maintained a pretty respectable ranking and only slipped where she is now because of her lack of play. I just meant that sometimes players just seem to almost disappear suddenly (Natasha Zvereva, Irina Spirlea for example), and you don't ever seem to get a proper announcement about their decision to stop playing. I've always felt a bit sorry for their fans because you always try and keep a bit of hope that they aren't gone, but usually the chances are very slim and had they known a certain event would be their last ever tournament, maybe accepting their decision to leave would be easier somehow. They deserve more recognition, rather than just sliding off the rankings without any official news

Is this official? Well...she's has an outstanding record at RG. This must
be a sign that something's really up in her career.

I will miss Amanda too if she is truly gone.

But maybe we shouldn't write her off just yet. She might be back before the year is out.

Amanda

I hope she comes back, but it doesn't look likely.

I really hope she could play one more tournament and you know announces her retirement, rather than keeping quiet and everyone's forgetting her.
