I think it's worth noting that Martinez and Majoli are not
in similar positions. Majoli is a more 'typical' one-slam wonder. Majoli was top-5 for, at most, about 2-3 years (1995-1997), and that is being generous. Martinez was top-5 for around 5 years, and still a solid top-10 player for an additional 5 years. She also won a stack more titles than Majoli, and went deep (SF or better) at all of the Slams more than twice.
I agree that Gaby's Slam record is better than Conchita's, and she pressed the top players more than Conchita at the Slams. The only positive for Conchita over Gaby is more titles, more matches won, and sheer longevity (being a top-15/20 player for longer).
Jana is more comparable to Majoli than Gaby or Conchita, but she's actually closer to Gaby and Conchita than Majoli. There's only been one 'true' one-slam wonder since about 1980 and that is Majoli. Gaby, Conchita and Jana looked set to pick up 2 Slams each, possibly 3 in the case of Gaby.
It wasn't to be though.
Instead, Mary and Jennifer grab the 'extra' Slams, backing up their less illustrious records in the process.
Conchita, however, is still playing, and has an outside chance of making it.
