Upset of the Week

For two weeks running the Williams Sisters have been on the receiving end of the upset of the week according to wtatour.com.

When Serena won Miami Venus suffered at the hands of Dementieva; the following week she lost to Petrova. Now that Venus has won Charleston, who suffered the upset of the week?

Lindsay Davenport was the upset of the week in my opinion, yes Patty is a great clay player but 6-2 6-3 is pretty bad. ANd if she was in such great form I would have expected more of a fight from her in the semis against Conchita...

Davenport. normally i would say capriati's loss would be a bigger upset, but the way davenport has been playing, winning last week and dominating so far, losing 6-2, 6-3 is a HUGE upset!

How should you be? You should be like a rocky promontory against which the restless surf continuously pounds.
It stands fast while the churning sea is lulled to sleep at its feet. I hear you say,
"How unlucky that this should happen to me."
But not at all.
Perhaps say instead how lucky I am that I am not broken by what has happened,
and I am not afraid of what is about to happen.

Capriati's loss was not a huge surprise... not taking into account her form, and Petra's form. Davenport was on fire, and the score was just shocking... I didn't expect Patty to have one of her spells, either.

Lindsay's loss was a real huge surprise to me. I know Patty is very dangerous here (look at her run in 2002 - then she loses to Iva ). Of course that's why I didn't expect her to win as well, she can be so inconsistent. Not to mention the breadstick drubbing she got from Lindsay at 2002 AI and the excellent form LD seemed to be in.

That was a real shocker. 2,3? Very unexpected. I thought with all the pullouts (from ailments) and lack of form (Venus) that Lindsay would be the last woman standing.

What surprised me about the Mandula/Cap match was that Petra actually closed it out. She's lost valuable leads in recent matches and lost those matches so it was good for her.

wow im really shocked to see 6 times as many people feel patty beating lindsay on clay is a bigger upset than mandula taking out capriati in a nailbiter when jen was actually fine but just got beaten...
