Surprising stats

Capriati has only 14 career titles.
Pierce has only 15 career titles.

It seems that those 2 have been playing forever, yet Justine & Kim already have more titles in just a few years. Even Conchita Martinez has 32 titles which is way more then Capriati & Pierce.

Capriati should at least have 25 titles and Pierce at least 20 in my opinion.

Well, I'm pretty sure that Mary would have continued adding to her total at her historical rate of between 1 and 4 titles a year if it weren't for injury; remember, she was World No.4 when she became injured in June 2000, and played very sporadically over the next two-and-a-half seasons. Even last year, her first 'full' (almost) season since 1999 Mary still played far fewer tournaments than most of her peers (with the obvious exceptions of the injured Willliams sisters and a few age-resticted players.)

Jen only has 14 titles? I think she should've more than that, atleast 20-25.

in last 3 years, Jen won 4 only. She seems to choke a lot. And before that she was still doing her comeback. She did get a title at 14, but after she starts playing in the big leagues. She stopped earning titles the way Martina Hingis does. Mary Pierce could not sustain her efforts because of her injuries. Before her injury, she is just not as good as Steffi or Martina both of whom enter tournaments week in and week out. So I'm guesing that's why. But they are not really in the leagues of Martina Hingis and people like that anyways.

Jenn had a few hot tournaments...that was all. It's weird that you can win 3 grand slams, and only 11 other titles in a 13 year career!!!!

I am surprised Mary doesn't have more, whenever she was healthy between '94-'00 she was a top player.

Jennifer wasn't much of a contender for late ninties, so its not that surprising. Also, in the early-mid 90's when both Jen and Mary were getting some of their titles, more top players played more often then now.

SINGLES Winner (14 WTA Tour): 2003 - New Haven; 2002 - Australian Open; 2001 - Australian Open, Roland Garros, Charleston; 2000 - Luxembourg; 1999 - Strasbourg, Quebec City; 1993 - Sydney; 1992 - San Diego, Olympics; 1991 - San Diego, Canadian Open; 1990 - Puerto Rico.

those are kinda crazy... i can't imagine playing a whole year winning 1 title, and that title being the australian open. or winning only 3 tournaments in the "best year" and have 2 of them be slams.
it also looks like she's got some pretty damn weak tournaments in there as well. i don't remember lux, stras, quebec, or peurto rico being big events.

Jen was never a dominant player, even in her so called dominant years. She was a very consistant player, and you could count on her getting to the latter rounds of tournaments, however only winning 3 titles in your most dominant year, albeit 2 were grandslams, does not seem dominant to me.

I am not conceited, I am just convinced

Have to agree with Borja on this one.......

Quality is superior to quantity, at least for me when comparing players, and this is exactly what is happening here.

But Conchita or Sabatini or Novotna were not as dominating, and even though they have only 1 slam each, they have tons more career titles.
