...and consequently she has just withdrawn from Miami and Stuttgart entry lists. Details of the length of her ban should be known anytime now.

Re: Sharapova/Meldonium Thread (2) - Hearing 18-19th May

5000 postings despite there not being any important news on the actual case for almost two months.. Maria Sharapova everyone! No one attracts pressed haters like her

Not important news? Come on  there were many interesting discussions about the WADA, meldonium, other athletes, the whole schedule, etc. Obviously, there was some quite spamming but even you were involved :nerd:
When such a big name gets caught, it's a huge bombshell in sports. Had it been Serena, I actually believe volume #1 would have been over a long time ago. But I am not sure the mods would have still let it open :tape:

The "poll" by ESPN is nonsense. 31 alleged tennis players, anonymously, are polled.
When?
Where?
Rankings?
Juniors?
Main tour?
ITF if WTA?
Challenger if ATP?

Please. The number of people "polled" is too low to be a valid sample. Horrible move by ESPN/Eisenbud and crew.

The ruling comes down in two weeks.
The hearing was not held at ITF headquarters in London.

Myth: People with diabetes can't eat sweets or chocolate.

Fact: If eaten as part of a healthy meal plan, or combined with exercise, sweets and desserts can be eaten by people with diabetes. They are no more "off limits" to people with diabetes than they are to people without diabetes. The key to sweets is to have a very small portion and save them for special occasions so you focus your meal on more healthful foods.

- See more at: Diabetes Myths: American Diabetes Association®
Yes diabetics don't go into shock if they eat sweets a few times a year, but doctors give explicit instructions not to take them for obvious reasons, so this "mythh busting" is an exception to the rule. That does not really go with what you said: "moderation like all things in life" and does not at all go with producing and selling sweets.

This however has no impact on Maria anyways, as you already told us that Maria is not diabetic herself, just in a risk group, so she is not in any danger from her sweets as long as she takes her MeldoAspirin to combat it.

My grandma has diabetes. She can eat sweets and such a few times in the year only. Not in moderation every week.

What is the difference between the people you call " hater " and "trolls " in case of Sharapova and what YOU do to the beautiful dane? Not talking about that Sharapova is a doper and there are reasons for not like that..

Why are you so desperate to bring Wozniacki up all the time? No one cares.

Re: Sharapova/Meldonium Thread (2) - Hearing 18-19th May

According to the TADP rules TUEs are not handed out by the tribunal, so as long as the ITF follows its own rules the stuff about a retroactive TUE should be absolutely false as the tribunal hearing wouldn't be necessary with a TUE. In any case, I don't see how Sharapova's meldonium use would qualify for any kind of TUE given that Meldonium is not even legal in her country of residence and she failed to identify a medical condition she has (or for that matter, even exists. There are other angina medications.) that can be exclusively treated by Meldonium, which is a requirement for a TUE.

In short, unless the ITF is dead-set on getting Sharapova back on court, rules and integrity be damned, the TUE angle won't work.

So , was there any official word on when the hearing date or all we really have some rumors disseminated by yellow press?
It was reported by both Jon Wertheim and Christopher Clarey, both journalists who in recent weeks and months have been receiving VIP treatment by the Sharapova camp, so I think it's safe to assume that the hearing was at least scheduled for today.

Re: Sharapova/Meldonium Thread (2) - Hearing 18-19th May

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I'm wondering: if she's banned for 6-12 months - like those experts say - does the time she hasn't played (since March) count as part of that ban too? In other words, if - for example - tomorrow she gets banned 6 months, will it be until September 2016 or November 2016?
The time she hasn't played since she was suspended on March 12 counts under any circumstances. But if she actually gets such a short ban, she may be able to start counting from January 26, the date of sample collection. This will require recognition of her prompt admission of the offense (very likely given what they'd have already accepted to give her this ban) and also that at least half of her penalty remains. So, for six months, she'll have to start from March 12. For eight months, she'll start from January 26 if the decision is issued by May 26, otherwise from March 12. For twelve months, the decision must be issued by July 26 for her ban to start on January 26.

(I'll repeat that if the rules are followed, there is no way for her to get one year or less).

Because Maria has courageously stepped forward, our work will focus on the circumstances that led her to take this drug," Jacobs told ESPN. "Most cases wind up being about inadvertent positives, and this definitely fits that category." Jacobs also said Sharapova's position is she received the same form letter over the past 10 years, informing her that a new banned drugs list was available but not personalizing it in any way or telling her she should be aware of changes. "If you get the same email for 10 years, you're going to stop checking it," Jacobs said.

So each athlete has to receive a personalized email telling them that their drug of choice is now illegal? She (or someone) is paying this guy? I'd laugh him out of the room.

Once again this shows that many as yet unnamed people knew she was using this as a PED. Otherwise where does this attitude come from that she deserves special treatment? This is what Lansdorp said back in March.

E-mails have nothing to do with it. Talking about e-mails and then needing passwords to see the list is all bullshit when it is generally known that the list is updated once a year and can be found with 5 secs of googling. All this e-mail talk is red herring. And I don't think many people knew what dope was she using. If many people knew she would have been warned for sure. She kept it secret like dopers do. I bet that only Yuri, "family doctor" and herself knew.

Re: Sharapova/Meldonium Thread (2) - Hearing 18-19th May

Duh. We all get lots of boring but essential mails and pieces of paperwork on a monthly or yearly basis. Insurance policies, mortgage statements, etc, etc.

Hopefully we all read them, to check there are no nasty surprises. I'm sure people slip up, and fail to, on occasion, but any consequences are then their own responsibility.

It's exactly the same here. Arguing otherwise is imbecilic.

debby, don't waste your time. People that believe Martha is being 100% truthful and forthcoming in this is a lost cause.

All she has done to this point, including her sudden baring of her soul on social media, is to help herself.
