The Olympic doubles event: With more than 1 team for each nation possible ...

... isn´t it that the "big" nations will "fill" the draw and the smaller ones won´t even have a chance to send just one ?!

If we consider

USA
Russia
France
Italy
Australia
Argentina
Spain
China
Japan
Australia
Belgium
Slovakia

If it´s a 32 event and those 12 could send more than 20 teams, there´ll be a tough competition for some of these following nations to get in with just one.

Germany
Columbia
Canada
South Africa
Switzerland
Great Britain
Netherlands
Tchechia
Slovenia
Ukraine
Indonesia
Thailand
Israel
Poland
Bulgaria
Yugoslavia
Croatia

It will be interesting to see how they´ll organize such a draw and how they´ll prevent national teams to meet too early.

Take Bulgaria for example: Maleeva is top-20 in doubles, but the nextr one is ranked in the 170´s. Can they form a couple? Same with Columbia.

FLAVIA PENNETTA

US OPEN CHAMPION 2015

Thank you for all these moments over the last years! Supported you until your final point!

With all due respect, but in Sydney you had Oremans/Boogert taking the Silver while the no.1 doubles player wasn't even allowed to compete.

Allowing two teams per country is at least one measure trying to avoid such a situation

I´m sorry but Oremans/Boogert in their prime weren´t the worst doubles team. I think they could have been rated among the top10 of the competing teams and if you consider the Chinese teams beating top teams each week this year, I would even consider the Chinese girls the dangerous darkhorses in that event even with 2 American and 2 Russian teams competing ...

Scratch Belgium off the list. Callens isn't good enough (according to the Belgian Fed) and Justine doesn't have a partner

A man may fight for many things. His country, his friends, his principles, the glistening ear on the cheek of a golden child. But personally, I'd mud-wrestle my own mother for a ton of cash, an amusing clock and a sack of French porn.

If you team Henin and Callens, they´d make a good team especially considering that Henin is unranked in doubles, they won´t get a seed in doubles and if you put them against Lisa/Martina, I don´t know if they´d win that at the moment

ChrisGermany, thank you! That is what I meant the whole time. 4 singles players of each nation seem to be too much as well. The Olympic tournament needs small nations like Sweden (WTA), Madagascar, Belarus etc.!

Does anyone know the size of the draws? Singles: 96? Doubles: 64?

Callens and Justine wouldn't understand each other... just look at this board, where the Flemish and the Walloons argue all the time...
