Why is Suarez ranked higher than Ruano Pascual in doubles?

They have the same number of Ranking and Quality points, yet Paola is ranked #1 and Virginia is ranked #2.

Any ideas?

Only reason I can come up with is because Paola played a couple tournaments with Conchita... and even though aren't in her Best 11, that could decide the tie-break.

I thought if a player plays fewer tournaments and gets the same number of points as the other one, she should be ranked higher...

That would be the sensible reasoning... but I'm just saying the only difference I could see.

That is why they have decided to play just with each other this year so they have the same ranking (they hope # 1) at the end of the year. Judging from the WTA Player Guide the Olympics is not giving ranking points for doubles, so it won't harm them to play there.

Mirjana Lucic : Australian Open doubles champ and back in Top 100

Jelena Jankovic : US Open finalist 2008 and World No. 1

Jennifer Capriati : 3 Grand Slams, Olympic Gold and World No.1

Rafael Nadal : 10 Grand Slams, Olympic Gold and World No.1
