French open bets

These are the bets on bookmaker bet365 to win the french open 2004

Serena Williams 2.50
Justine Henin 3.00
Kim Clijsters 4.33
Venus Williams 6.00
Amelie Mauresmo 21.00
Jennifer Capriati 26.00
Anastasa Myskina 26.00
Maria sharapova 41.00
Lindsay Davenport 41.00
Svetlana Kuznetsova 41.00

I don't get it why they put Serena above Justine.
That's not much respect for Justine her clay capabilities

I'm not going to say it because I'll be clobbered by Justine-fans.

I don't get why Sharapova even made it onto that list and they gave her the same odds as Davenport. Now there's no way Lindsay is winning RG, but she's got a much better shot at it than Maria does:retard:

Jelena Dokic.Vera Zvonareva.Tatiana Golovin.Mary Pierce.Monica Seles.Martina Hingis.Anna Kournikova

I think because Justine won it last year, and taking into account the likely hood of a first time winner winning it back to back, I can see (from an odd-makers stand point,) why Serena is slightly favored. It's not meant as a dis to Justine, it's nothing personal at all- it's a business based on weighing in on all the facts and calculating likelyhoods.

Based on the ones listed here, I think the oddmakers did a descent job in getting it correct- as close as one can get.

The Commander In Chief: Steffi Graf
General: Serena Williams
Admiral: Kim Clijsters
Lieutenant General: Elena Dementieva

Such a list is not a measure of the chances a player has to win the tournament, it's a combination of these chances AND the number of people that will bet on them (which is doesn't always reflect their chances because of nationalism, favorism, etc.). They calculate how many money they would lose if a certain player wins the tournament and based on that they define the odds. Sharapova is probably a popular player in the betting community, that's why she is on the list. And Serena is probably more popular then Justine.

Keep in mind, that the bookmakers are not a third party, they're on the side of the house and want to maximize profit. It's does them no good to lower the odds on a player they think has better odds- that makes no sense at all. Based on all the things XMan said it seems they had their reasons for giving Serena the "best" odds of winning.

Don't think so. Even the arrogant Federer fans in the mens forum accept that Ferrero is a better clay courter

Myskina * Henin-Hardenne * Zvonerava

Davenport - Dementieva

Ruano Pascual is a better "clay courter" than Serena, what's your point?

Yes, she has an amazing record on clay

Federer is a great player but he has done nothing on clay to suggest he is as good as Coria or Agassi let alone Ferrero(who is the best, and best looking )

Myskina * Henin-Hardenne * Zvonerava

Davenport - Dementieva

Shyperova as high as Davenport and Kuznetsova...

Well, at least real tennis fans can take advantage of people without brains.

would you bet on Ruano Pascual before you bet on Serena? i wouldn't a) cuz i like my money, and b) Serena is just the better player. that's why she'd be ahead of Ruano Pascual in the betting odds, now relate that to the Henin bit

re Federer vs Coria and Agassi and Ferrero, let's just say if they play in a few weeks, i wouldnt be surprised if the results went either way
