* Misleading total because it includes the period from June 1993 when Steffi gained the number one ranking as a result of Monica being forcibly removed from the game by an assassination attempt. This total also includes 66 weeks from 15 August 1995 - 3 November 1996 and 18 November 1996 - 24 November 1996 when Steffi and Monica Seles shared the #1 ranking. Graf, therefore, is second in the list regarding the total number of weeks spent as undisputed world #1 with 311, behind Martina Navratilova

** excludes all the weeks when Evert was #1 in 1974 and 1975 before computer rankings began.

This the way it is printed in the record books. If you want to use * you would have to use it for probably every #1 player listed. They were and are great champions. If you take away from one it also deminishes the results of the others. They all have respect for each other without * next to their name. Why can't you?

I have phenomenal respect for all the number ones and all the champions who never made it to #1. I have a BIG problem with these stupid WTA "rankings" from start to finish and yes we should put asterisks next to those statistics because they are a combination of different systems with different parameters and different aims. They mean f**k all.

I wrote nothing that is not true and writing the truth is not disrespectful to anyone.

Actually, I have always wondered about the period when Monica and Steffi were co-number ones. Are those weeks Steffi's alone?

I also wonder whether weeks at number one includes the off season weeks. Assuming there actually is a six week period when no WTA points counting events are scheduled, does that six week period just get included in the total number of weeks of whoever happens to be number one when the break began?

Because it seems to me those weeks should NOT count in a player's total.
