MIAMI: Maria Sharapova receives her 'newcomer of the year' award from Larry Scott (l) and Butch Buchholz

MIAMI: Doubles team of the year, Paola Suarez and Virginia Ruano Pascual, receive their awards from Larry Scott, WTA Tour CEO, and Nasdaq-100 Chairman, Butch Buchholz

MIAMI: World No.2 Kim Clijsters was presented with two Waterford Crystal trophies on Sunday during a WTA Tour Awards ceremony. Clijsters won the Player Services Award and the Karen Krantzcke Sportsmanship Award, which were presented to her by WTA Tour Board member Lisa Grattan and NASDAQ-100 Tournament Chairman Butch Buchholz.

MIAMI: Nadia Petrova was presented with the award for Most Improved Player in 2003 during a WTA Tour Awards ceremony held on Sunday on Stadium Court.

As usual, there always has to be some wrong decisions in every award ceremony.

Ai/Kim should've been honoured as the doubles team of the year.
