Elena D.'s Backhand

Is it just me or does Elena sort of swipe at her backhand...it just looks different to me??? Not that its bad her motion just seems different than the normal topspin backhand!!

I love her backhand!!! I don't think she really swipes the ball, it gives you that impression because she doesn't really go under the ball (at least when she's going for a hard drive) she doesn't hit with a lot of topspin and contrary to most of the other 2 handers, she has a gap between her 2 hands, that also could give you this impression.

Lucie ''Lucka'' Safarova, Petra ''KvittyGoat'' Kvitova, Sabine ''BoomBoom Bine'' Lisicki

she hits open-stanced and with an extreme-grip so thats why it looks like that.

her grip is not extreme, just the gap between her 2 hands that makes it peculiar

She hits it open stance, makes her thighs do more work than her wrists, its a good technique because its ensures you have less running to do to get to the next shot.

It stays really low too.
It's hard for the opponent to get under it.

yeah, yeah, we could talk about her backhand and her forehand and her movement all day, but the real problem she has is with her serve!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i agree, when i see her play her racket looks so manuverable, it looks like she just swipes at the ball, kinda strange

Yeah, open-stance, quick swing...she hits it very flat, but very well.
