I know Vinci isn't as good on clay as she is on hard courts, but to lose 4&2 to Kovinic is.... bad.
Granted, Kovinic has been in good form recently, but still... Vinci had like 6 BPs in the first set and converted none. Probably just a classic WTA match of not taking chances when it really matters.
The match lasted an hour and a half. Lots of deuce games with Roby on the short end of the stick. She was only 1 for 9 on break point opportunities.
I guess Kovinic carried some confidence into this match from her run in the finals at Istanbul the week before. Still a disappointing result from Roby.
Probably the same way it always happens with young players. She gains experience playing top players. She has some success. She wins some other matches. Her confidence increases. Eventually she wins a bigger match.
Great win And I don't get these disrespectful comments to Kovinic. Danka is such an enjoyable player on clay and can play there very well. Definitely TOP 20 material.
So refreshing to see that despite being from such a small country, Kovinic is having such a break-through season! Even though she lost the final last weekend to Turkish Delight, she has already moved on from that and is here to slay in Spain!
One of three of Serena's most gifted wins to a player at a slam. Between Vinci, Kerber and Stosur, karma has been balancing the act.
Great result for tennis.
