Player perks? Just ask Kim Hall
BY MICHELLE KAUFMAN AND SANDRA HARWITT
One of the busiest women at the NASDAQ-100 Open is Kim Hall, director of player services. She takes great pride in providing players with a special off-court experience, and she's the one they come to when they want restaurant reservations, concert tickets and Heat tickets.
She got 200 tickets for the Heat-Dallas game that went into overtime last week. Andy Roddick sat beside the Heat bench, and Lleyton Hewitt and fiancée Kim Clijsters sat behind the visitors' bench.
Hall also secured a suite at the Britney Spears concert, which 19 players attended. When Juan Antonio Chela and Sebastian Prieto of Argentina wanted tickets for last week's Panthers-Carolina game, it was Hall they went to. She said Russian and Swedish players also are big NHL fans.
If a player wants a haircut, Hall can take care of that, too. The tournament has a Toni & Guy hair salon in the bowels of the stadium, and Hall estimates they take about 100 appointments during the event. Jennifer Capriati and Goran Ivanisevic were among the players who got their locks trimmed last week.
But Hall's greatest claim to fame this year is that she helped secure each player an iPod through Apple's connection with NASDAQ. ''That was a huge hit,'' she said. 'The players were like, `This is the best player gift we've ever gotten.' ''
But I, being poor, have only my dreams
I have spread my dreams under your feet
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams
