Muguruza: "Clay is my territory", "Serena dominance has to change one day"
Garbine Muguruza enjoyed her best run at a Grand Slam tournament on grass, says hard courts are her favourite surface, but feels that clay is “my territory”. As the 22-year-old Spaniard admitted here at this week’s Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, where she will play her first tournament of the European clay-court season: “I like all surfaces actually. I don’t feel uncomfortable on any surface.”
Muguruza’s big-hitting game may be best suited to quicker courts, as she demonstrated with her run to the final of Wimbledon last summer, but she feels most at home on clay.
“I spent a lot of hours playing on clay when I was younger,” she said here. “I was brought up on clay, so every time I go back to it I feel: ‘This is my territory.’ I know some people think that my game style is not ideal for clay, but I think I play well on it.”

Garbae idol is Serena, but this is job...and seems that Garbi is pumped up for clay season or maybe she wants that her idol makes it #22 :grin2: Anyway, right attitude.
Re: Muguruza: "Clay is my territory", "Serena dominance has to change one day"
She hasn't performed well in the last 2 Slams and in Australia looked quite apathetic and wasn't playing with her usual aggression. I would like to see her playing Serena at the French. She was awesome and had her breakthrough performance when she beat her there in 2014, but Serena was abysmal. It would be nice if that match happened to see if she really believes what she's saying here.
Who thrash talks here Anyway, quite clear that Stuttgart is not "real clay",so doesn't matter much how well she will made there...rome ,madrid are more important.

Serena is really the True #1, the Standard in Women's tennis.
Interview any player and she'll talk about Serena.
What a #1 !!!!!!!!! Even when she is not in a tournament, she's still the 'TALK'.

A 22 yr old top 4 player who's already made a GS F thinks she can win a GS !! Are you kidding me ? The arrogance of it all.
The last 2 GS winners are Flavia and Kerber, both high quality players, but no one was seeing it coming, so it's no wonder that if you also consider Serena's decline in her results this year, other players are realizing that this is not a one player show anymore, and that there's going to be an open window in the next GS if they bring their best game at the right time and take their chances, like Flavia and Kerber did. Muguruza is one of several contenders.

Every player measures their form against Serena (whether she's playing great or not), she's the GOAT that's why she's the golden standard.
Who exactly do you folks here expect Mugu to measure herself to?
The focus is still Serena, not Vika, or Kerber or Halep or pffft but Serena who isn't even playing Stuttgart & yet still preoccupying their minds

Sorry mate, the Gold(en Grand Slam) standard is Steffi the one with the 22 majors, most weeks at No 1 etc. Serena is just the current No 1. And she only mentioned her because that's who Kerber beat to win her first slam.
Re: Muguruza: "Clay is my territory", "Serena dominance has to change one day"
Its predictable that she would say this things i mean i don't think a player will say that she doesn't want to win or doesn't care about winning but we will see how she does and how she plays. Last year i thought she was going to have better results after wimbledon she played great that tournament but that was pretty much it i haven't seen that game back again.
