is Schiavone officially out of her slump

Winning her first title in 3 years
Not losing in the first round ( or first round of qualies) 9 times out of 10
Re-entering the top 100....
Not having the feeling that she "should" retire
....
Don't know your thoughts on it.

Hard to say but the title in Rio was great for her. Hope she can do some (at least minor damage during Roland Garros :P

She's 35 until June 23.

I think she's out of her slump, but due to age she isn't as consistent as she used to be.

It would be cool to see her cause some trouble this clay season and flirt with the top 30

Re: is Schiavone officially out of her slump

I was so pleased that Fran won Rio, which definitely seems to have given her a boost. She is such a great player to watch - always gives 100%, has an incredibly varied game and obviously absolutely loves playing. She comes over as a genuinely nice person too. Win or lose she's a real asset to the game and I will be very sad indeed when she retires.

I'm sorry, but this is just comical. What self-respecting former GS champ would consider re-entering the top 100 an achievement? Especially when her decline had absolutely nothing to do with injury.

She's playing for scraps.

You realise she recently won a title? Hardly playing for scraps. I'm not sure why so many TF posters are obsessed with retiring. Schiavone is clearly a player who plays for the love of the game, computer rankings are irrelevant to her besides her seedings or lack of and being a challenge. She is clearly not as good as she was, but so what? She is having fun and is fun to watch. If all that mattered was rankings and titles we wouldn't need to watch any games, we could just refresh the live rankings and news pages. But for those of us who enjoy actually watching tennis being played we are glad Fran is still around.

She will be a long time retired so she can play on for as long as she wants to. It's quite an achievement at almost 36 to win a tournament, to get back in the top 100 and get into the slams automatically. Your goals change as you get older.

She just loves the game.
She has won titles in different surfaces, a Grand Slam, was former top 5. She got much more than what she dreamt about and yet, 35 years old, she still has passion. I respect that a lot actually

Re: is Schiavone officially out of her slump

Back into the top 90 after having been outside the top 130 just weeks ago.
Look what she has to defend over the next months. It's not much at all. She's 'almost' guaranteed to play all slams this year. Such a shame she couldnt break the record in Australia.
