Is Courtney Nguyen one of the least knowledgeable tennis writers ever?

Tennis has seen its fair share of clueless tennis writers. From Wertheim's idiotic slam seed reports to Matt Cronin and his "Stephens > Halep" campaign a few years back.

But during her time as "WTA Insider", I've noticed that Courtney Ngyuen might just be poised to eclipse them all as the most clueless tennis writer of all time. It started clicking when she and OohZuzana were previewing the AO draw and Courtney was adamant that Serena (with Giorgi, Ostapenko, and La Borz) had a tougher draw than Maria Sharapova (with Pavlyuchenkova, Kuznetsova, and Bencic) to get to the QF. OohZuzana tried to reason with her that that made absolutely no fucking sense but Courtney was determined.

Then this happened today:

Like...:crying:

Should Courtney have stuck to blogging? Is she punching above her weight class right now? Has her time as an Ivanovic stan forever stunted her growth as a writer?

Discuss.

She's also one of the most annoying figures in press room, barely letting other people ask questions with her incessant blabbering.

beck hitting One of the few what? It could come down to her understanding of the word few. I mean you have Babos, Ivanovic, Withcroft and Pavlychenko remaining. Also Kozlova is bigger hitter than Beck. So of the 10 remaining players Beck is easily one of the least powerful if not the least

She is indeed. she talks like an average TF's user  and you can really see when she likes a player and when she doesn't. commentators/writers/analysts should not be biased

but i kinda like her podcasts though, is like listening to a fan who has access to the tennis world  :oh:

I have the same feeling but I don't think it's bad, sports are made for fans, I feel represented with Courtney there even when I don't agree with her.

Annika being able to hit through this court? :silly:

OK, she hit 20+ winners, but there are any number of players in the top 100 who can hit the ball harder. Not too many of her winners today involved her bludgeoning the ball past Belinda.

There have been plenty of less knowledgeable tennis writers and commentators. Problem shows up when you HAVE to write something, even when you have nothing new to say. So see this same problem in all media, and not just in sports.

Hmmm...I've read some of her articles from si.com don't recall being that impressed. Haven't read them for a long time though so my memory is fuzzy.

Wertheim also knows next to nothing about the game, but at least he's a good writer.

Styling Bodo as clueless about tennis only makes it seem that you're clueless about tennis writing. Sure, like all sports writers, he has put out some fails but he's also written some excellent stuff.

I think it's obvious that she started getting into tennis pretty late into her life. She may be kinda annoying and fangirlish, but she's completely obsessed with tennis which is great and her writing is kinda good.

She knows loads about current tennis, not so much about its legacy unfortunately and she should definitely educate herself in that respect tbh but she's a good bridge between WTA and fans.
