When Serena returns ...

Is she going to be the player she once was?

Davenport had knee surgery in January 2002. When she returned by July, she never did get back to where she left off at.

Seles' return after the stabbing (albeit an absence 4X as long as Serena has been gone) went ok at first ... but after her final Slam title, she was also never able to havethe same success.

Then again, Serena is younger than Davenport was when she was gone, and she hasn't been out as long as Seles was.

But does anybody see another Serena Slam?

I think that Serena is tired of tennis.

We've not seen Serena since July and we haven't seen her practice so we don't know how she'll play. Right now anything is possible, until we see her play again, who knows.

Davenport did return to the form she was in before her operation, she never made it past the the semis of a slam in 2001 and when she came back she made it to the semis of the USO. She still is capable of semis. Granted she isn't winning as many titles as she used to. As for Serena only time will tell.

Rena- a tennis great! 22 at striking distance.

Nah, Lindsay never got back to where she was. In 2001, she was probably the 2nd best player in the world. Hasn't been anywhere near that lofty stage since.

SexyjezebelWhore. We meet again.

Jen won two Slams in 2001. But Lindsay won the head to head. I'll grant that Jennifer deserved to be ranked higher than year, but was she a better player? My opinion, no.

Jen won 2 slams in 01, Venus won 2 slams in 01, they are the top 2 of that year

Ehhhh ...

Yeah, I would rank them 1, 2 for 2001. You can't argue with Jen's Slam titles.

But I'd still say she wasn't as good as Lindsay.

Nevertheless, it's a moot point. You want to count Davenport as #3 when she had her surgery, ok. She hasn't been back to that level since.

Serena is too good a player to not get back to a high level of play, but how high that will be is difficult to say, because her absence has been too long for my liking.

And then she was back, that goddess-like creature, back to torment the souls of the good and distribute free samples of bacon to the bad.

Thing is ms Ans....when you have been at the very top, there´s only ONE way to go and that is down. Seeing how many or rather how few players have won even the career-slam, let alone four in a row, it wouldn´t be fair to compare Serena to that standard.

Serena´s gonna be back...she´s bound to realize that it is tennis she does and likes best and she will remain a major force.

Lindsay and Monica were SLOOOWWW to begin with and ANY injury would diminish their chances, but Serena even at 80 % is more athletic than most...

Always bet on black!
