I mean honestly, these players come to the tour to play singles, not doubles, right? I mean I think it would be kind of offensive or at least to me if I was called a double specialist when really my objective was to become a Singles Slam champ. I dunno but for me its kind of mean when they call Lisa a doubles specialist, I mean I KNOW she is but its not like she hasn't won stuff in singles....

A top doubles player makes hundreds of thousands a year. Every player outside the top 40 in singles should be playing doubles.

Considering that 95% of the girls who start on the tour never become known at all to the majority of tennis fans, being recognized as a doubles specialist doesn't seem so bad.

I don't think so. Some players actually favor doubles and find it to be more important than singles.

I guess...but it still would feel odd for me if I was recognized for 'my wonderful achievements in doubles'

Hey, if I could be a successful doubles player, whom btw make a very nice living, I wouldn't care if ppl called me me a "doubles specialist".There are worst things ppl could call you.

Kournikova, Natasha, Paula, Pam Shriver, ..

I think it'd be nice to have Hingis back, even if she was just a dubs. specialist.

"Hatred is the coward's revenge for being intimidated" - George Bernard Shaw

"And for the best of the teen-agers who followed her, and who occasionally referred to her as over the hill, Graf had a ready answer: against top-ranked Martina Hingis, Graf wound up 7-2. Graf's stirring 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 throttling of Hingis at the French Open final this June was perhaps the most emphatic parting shot the game has ever seen. "

Well, I guess it doesn't really matter since you'll never be known for ANYTHING.

Doubles players are never as famous as singles. That must be frustrating. Like who is Kuznetsova out there? She is in top-10 in doubles and who knows her? Compare with singles top-10 players.

The only real disadvantage of being known as a doubles specialist is that when it comes to Sports, doubles just is not talked about except within the tennis circles.

You don't watch Sportscenter and hear about how Lisa Raymond is doing all week in doubles.

But like somebody said as long as they are making money and perhaps occasionally doing well in singles I sure as hell would not care.

Look at Martina N. She made more money in doubles in 2003 then the majority of the top 100 women who competed in singles. Granted Martina is a legend that is still pretty impressive.

If I could not make it in singles but was awesome in doubles it sure as heck would not bother me.

What an idiotic post You have no idea what it takes to play tour level doubles. The only reason doubles is considered "odd" is because it receives less media attention than singles. Didn't the bryan brothers aspire to be doubles specialists and doubles specialists only....and look where they're at
