The WTA Tour already has a cast of made-for-television stars and now the Tour has hired its own television director as well as a managing director of Europe to showcase its stars.
The WTA has hired former ESPN and Fox exec Anne Hartman as its television director and Bjorn Alven, who had served as director of marketing for Swedish sporting good company Tretorn, as its managing director of Europe, according to a published report in the SportsBusiness Journal by Daniel Kaplan.
In his "state of the game" address delivered in Los Angeles prior to the WTA Tour Championships final in November, Scott said he hope to increase the visibility of the tour.
"Our goal, simply stated, is to become the preeminent sports and entertainment experience in the world," Scott said. "Clearly, we have achieved that status among women’s sports, but our aspirations are much higher."
