What does everyone think of these? They were all great shots, but it seem like they could have found a better selection, a little boring. Aga here 2x.

Anybody have other highlights, more exciting shots to share?

I wonder if Aga x2 will split her votes allowing one of the other two to win :oh:

Also I really wish they'd start calling these what they really are, which is "Point of the Month/Year". They're often not one particular shot that is very impressive, but the point itself - usually from a very defensive position to ultimately winning the point.

Yeah, all four are genuinely incredible points but none feature single shots that warrant "shot of the year". What makes these points so enjoyable and impressive isn't so much the finishing shot but the cumulative succession of great shots in each point. A better title for these would have been "point of the year" rather than "shot of the year".

no one comes close to Agnieszka in this category
Aga always in contention for this award, year after year :yeah:
It is true. No matter how much her detractors might prattle on, year after year after year Aga hits more eye popping shots than anyone else on the tour by a pretty wide margin. Her improvisational skills and quick reactions are unparalleled in the modern game. She is a walking highlight reel.

i still have no idea why this shot wasn't nominated??

from those 4, Singapore's dropvolley from Aga

JoLa's doubles volley at Wimbledon.

You're fave could never. Ever.
That's a shame that there aren't hot shots from GS. Last year Aga would have won like 2 or 3 just from the match vs Azarenka.

But JoLa will be remembered forever :worship:

That's the result when the WTA chose to let fan votes to decide everything  Aga and Simona are always getting the most votes. (I'm surprised that Angie came through from the first group) Even though some of their shots (esp.Aga) were indeed amazing.

That dropshot from Aga was stunning but Simona's one should be just contending for the "point/rally of the year" instead as different posters mentioned above. I know I'm biased but I like Ana's FHDTL shot vs MLDB, CSN's volley vs Bacsinszky more and of course Schiavone's tweener winner is just GOAT :worship: Cornet's lob vs Dulgheru and Serena's passing shot vs CSN are good "points of the year"

Radwanska in Miami.

One of my favorites of the year: that lob from Wozniacki (point starting at 0:41) in that excellent Stuttgart match vs Halep. Caroline's coverage of the court is amazing, and the lob as perfect as it gets.

Special mention to Halep for being part of many matches I especially enjoyed this year (including the one against Lisicki at the USO, an underrated one, despite Sabine's usual amount of UEs).

But please Caroline, become a clay queen someday! Footwork is perfect! :hearts:

Shot of the year?

1st Shot, Begu left it.
2nd shot, Maria hit it directly to Kerber, Kerber even got there before she hit the ball...

Only two amazing shots was the last two.

I agree. All the players featured have hit many better shots this year.

It should really be renamed the Turning Defence into Offence Point of the Year award. I guess the WTA like to promote excitement and competitiveness in women's tennis and most of the points chosen do that well.

For Simona's part - because I watch far more of her than the others - she hits a ton of terrific DTL winners on the run/stretch (off either wing) akin to the Ivanovic one they had in Group B. Any of those would have been a better choice for her (although her get on the Errani point was amazing.)

Really flop choices, but I picked Halep :tears:

The Aga Miami and Angie Stuttgart shots are more because Begu and Poova are brainless :tears:

None of these are very impressive but they're at least better than last year :spit:.

I voted for Aga in Singapore.
Because:
1) Aga's shot in Miami was just a good lob, but nothing spectacular about it. It just looks like it is so great that Begu cannot handle it but the truth is Begu left it.
2) Kerber's was a good shot, but rather lucky because Maria made a mistake in shot selection
3) Halep got to that dropshot but it wasn't a great dropshot. At first glance, it looks impressive and spectacular because she got there at the last moment and reacted like she did something great but is it really so impressive to get to an average dropshot at the last moment? And it is striking that both players hit extremely short shots most of the rally. And look at Halep's return of Errani's serve - right to the middle of the court. I really like Simona but this rally just doesn't impress me
4) Aga's shot in Singapore is the only one from that list that is really good although definitely not her best this year (the one against Schmiedlova was amazing)
