her comments about H2H with Serena before her Wimbledon final were the same
Because it would be better if she didn't believe in herself??? She didn't said anything bad there....and even after final, she was super nice ofc.
but it doesn´t matter, Mug is Maria´s punchbag and one of the most overrated players right now :wavey:
Keep deluding yourself , young successful player with talent=hate coming from nowhere, even to nice person like her,for real.. :help:
Not a Sharpie fan but Muguruza screams as well. So pot calling the kettle black.

At least Sharpie means something for the tennis tour.
Haters
This is like so taken out of context, and it's not like a serious tennis interview or anything. That quote is taken from a spanish (silly) live talk show called "El Hormiguero", where there's a lot of fooling around, light baiting and playing around with the guests and audience. Guests are aware of it and expected to play their role (more times than not making total fools of themselves) That part takes like 10 seconds. The host asks her why Pova screams so loud, after playing some audio footage (audience gasps, shakes heads, ooohh ) and if it is an intimidating thing, but more in a joking, provocative way, expecting Garbiñe to play up to it. She does and replies that probably it is, but that it's a natural thing too, as she's always done it, and that she won't complain too much, as she's doing it too, though not as loud. That's all there is to it, and I am sure half a minute later Garbiñe wasn't even thinking about it anymore.
Thanks for explaining(even i didn't doubt in garbi, never seen her talking bad about players in that way),TF ofc will keep it up like they didn't read your post thought

Her comments have been taken a bit out of context (as always happens on press). During her interview on the TV show (where that quote supposedly comes from) when asked if Maria's grunts were 'real' or just a way to intimidate players, she said that it was 50/50. In her opinion it was natural for Maria to scream because she's been doing so since she was a child, but also that as much as she screams sometimes the ball is not coming that hard at you, so in a way it was a bit distracting.

Perhaps Maria needs to read Dale Carnagie's classic How to Win Friends and Influence People (1936):
Six Ways to Make People Like You

  1. Become genuinely interested in other people.
  2. Smile.
  3. Remember that a person's name is, to that person, the sweetest and most important sound in any language.
  4. Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves.
  5. Talk in terms of the other person's interest.
  6. Make the other person feel important – and do it sincerely.

Her grunt looks like Martha's. Actually I think Martha hasn't been screaming as loud in the last tournaments. But maybe that was just the rust.

I like Maria but I have seen her increase her scream, most notably in her last French Open final, I don't buy that she has to do it but if I was playing her wouldn't care for it.

None of the players who scream have to do it
With Sharapova & Azarenka its over the top.
Garbine isnt saying anything new. Its gamesmanship that the WTA allows.
Same with players who take too much time. They are trying to get in their opponent's head, which is a big part of tennis

Sadly so... :[

I don't know why everyone complains about Martha's grunt, when Guest is far more annoying and has a less natural grunt. Maria just screams, Guest is imitating a monkey.
That may be. And some say De Brito is worse than both. But how often do we get to see the De Brito on TV? Not much. People talk more about the one at the top, because the have to see her more on TV and because it's more likely she won over their fave (debatably also) because of some gamesmanship. If Vika were Top5 and Masha 20+, Mugu might have used Vika's name instead in that quote.

The fact that people complain more about Pova's shrieks than Vika's (or Michelle's, etc), proves there's also some frustration/jealousy there. The fact that they do complain more about Pova's or even Vika's, then Rena's, Simo's or Petra's, it means there is also some truth in the accusation that they are distracting/annoying for (at least some) opponents.

Anyway, this is a bit of a lost cause for the current generation. Lots of forum fights around it, which no added value. I believe girls aren't encouraged to develop a distracting grunt anymore like the case was in 'some schools', so it's definitely not a "growing trend" we should worry much about.

It's true. Hearing Masha scream during a slice makes me ROFL. But why are players still bringing it up :spit:
Players (at least Garbiñe) are not bringing it up. She just visited a popular TV show in Spain where hosts know nothing about tennis and asked her the most clichés questions like Sharapova's grunts. If something that was a compliment showing Maria (and obviously Venus and Serena) are actually the only known players for Spaniards not interested in tennis.

Yeah it's true that Maria's screams are louder and in addition Maria is doing it constantly. Garbine rather do it in the end of the match or in long rallies.
But if I remember correctly Maria in the first steps of her career had also more inconsistent screams.

This quotes are obviously her opinion and anyone should criticize her for that, but on the other hand Maria is doing it since forever so she won't change it.
