Yes it was streamed and she looked totally out of her depth. Her serves were comical and basic ground strokes were failing to even reach the net at times. All 8 points that she won (4 in the last 3 games) were unforced errors from Sakkari. It surely must have been nerves especially as she seemed to play much better in the last 2 games when the match was done. Hopefully she'll improve as/if she gets more experience at this level
Britt won 8 points in total, what a strange choice of a WC for a WTA-event. I mean, it's not like America doesn't have any (young and upcoming) players..
Who would have expected that an American 125k would be the biggest embarrassment of them all. This event needs to be removed from the calendar.
 She got the WC because she is a local high school sophomore. She is a horrible player who's only a 3 star recruit and wouldn't even be competitive in 10ks.
Still, she must have a relative running the tournament or something. Surely the WTA has minimum standards that are above what this girl was capable of. Scoring only 8 points in the match is pathetic.
Of the no-name, no-experience WC's in this event ... 0-6 0-6 this match, 1-6 1-6 (Abanda match), 1-6 4-6 (Maria match). Surprising that Tatjana Maria's match was best, a 15 yr old took 5 games off her!
I can't believe that they gave a 3 star recruit a MDWC to a 125K event  I mean, good for her. Experience of a lifetime :yeah:
I used to hit with a number of girls who were 3/4 star recruits when I was in HS. All went to (weaker) D1 programs, which is nothing to scoff at, but let's be for real. These girls can't compete with a girl of Sakkari's level, let alone someone of Scandalis or Mossmer's level
Jay Berger is the head of USTA player development. Former ATP scrub.
Wonder if there's any relation. That's what popped into my head immediately when I saw her last name/age. I know he has a son who plays on the PGA... Maybe this is his niece or something?
SHOCKED Sakkari lost 8 points, TBH. Should've been 5 or under.
Possibly something of that nature going on. According to her ITF profile her only pro match prior to this was a 6-0 6-1 loss in the first round of qualifying at a $25k. Hardly a candidate for a main draw wild card in a WTA $125k.
Lol, saw this and just laughed. Sakkari is the worst nightmare for a bagel girl because she won't give away free points. This girl could probably have played against Gajdosova and got a game or two.
Surprised Sakkari didn't get a golden set. To those saying they hope Brett isn't discouraged, I mean...maybe she should be :spit: Like gurl, professional tennis isn't for you. Most of the greats of the past few decades were at least top-100 level by age 16.
