If this weren't a wild enough tournament, theoretically...

Could you imagine if Henin's virus acted up and she bowed out?
Davenport's shoulder acted up again and she bowed out?
Mauresmo's leg and her brain troubled her to an early exit?
Clijster's ankle injury started to bother her again and she exited the tourney?

That would leave Mara Santangelo, Vera Zvonereva, Alicia Molik, Aniko Kapros, Fabiola Zuluaga, Tatiana Golovin, Lisa Raymond, Patty Schnyder, Paola Suarez, Chanda Rubin, Anastasia Myskina, and Silvia Farine Elia as the remaining contenders for the Aussie Open title

It could happen. Not likely, but not totally impossible. Raymond showed anything's possible.

I see just the opposite. Now that Venus is out of the equation. You'll
see 100% recoveries for everyone. I assure you. They're just drooling
in the gym right now. Trying to practice their acceptances speeches!

Are you saying that none of the top players felt they had any chance right up until the moment a player who hasn't won a Slam in 28 months disapeared from the draw?

You have to answer for Santino, Carlo.

No; but in the deep dark part of their brain the last match
they played against her might've crept up every once in a
minute when they heard name or seen her around the event.

I'm thinking the same The gym must be like a bee hive now.
Lindsay and Amelie are now even gonna be tougher for Justine to overcome. This will be very interesting.

Allez Ju!

The pressure has suddenly gone onto Kim now. LD, Amelie
and Justine all have each in sight and focused on that section
of the draw. Kim looks to have the obvious road to the final
now free of Venus. Can she finally win a grand slam with
this much Aussie support?

You're right, DH. She hasn't won a slam but that's not the point. Most of the players who might have a chance to win have been sent packing by Venus on more than one occasion.
