Post Year End Top 10

You heard it here first.

1. Jennifer Capriati
2. Lindsay Davenport
3. Venus Williams
4. Martina Hingis
5. Kim Clijsters
6. Justine Henin
7. Amelie Mauresmo
8. Serena Williams (providing she plays something, otherwise switch with Dokic)
9. Jelena Dokic
10. Monica Seles

If the Australian Open winner is one of those top 3, then she will be the #1. Kim will take over #4 from Martina following Australian Open.

You have to answer for Santino, Carlo.

I think that this the likeliest scenario. But
the assumption here is that Munich will be won by one of Davenport, Capriati or Clijsters. In any other cases we can have a different order,
and even some other faces, like Shaugnessy or Dementieva in Top 10.

Now we seem to get an interesting possibility. If Davenport wins Zurich, Linz and Munich, she'll probably end year as #1. And it doesn't sound like a science fiction scenario with Capriati being not in the best form, Hingis injured, Seles not playing and Williams sisters likely not playing too.. And Davenport beat three Top 10 players in Filderstadt and barely broke a sweat..

Not that I don't care about the rest, but positions 1-4 are the most important right now. And nobody seems to be talking about the possibility of Lindsay ending the year #1, only Jennifer and Venus. I understand that Jennifer has had a great year, amazingly winning 2 slams and getting to the semis of the other 2, but the rest of her year isn't that great. That is why Martina was #1, she did well everywhere, not just in the slams. And for Venus, there is no doubt in my mind that she would be #1 if she played more, but I don't think she will be playing much for the rest of 2001. And right now is carpet season, where Lindsay is the undisputed queen. So, to all of you non-believers, the season ending top 4 will be:

1. Lindsay Davenport
2. Jennifer Capriati
3. Venus Williams
4. Martina Hingis

Jennifer and Venus could switch, it is all up to Venus and how much she decideds to play. If Lindsay does as well as she should, I don't see her losing very much for the rest of the year.

Good luck in 2002, Lindsay.

Yes, Miranda, that would be nice. It looks like our girl will be out the the top 8 Australian Open seeds though, and forced to give a beating to one of them a round earlier than expected.

If Monica wins the addias international event will that count toward the seeds at the AUS or is it too late?

Yes, lets hope somebody may tell her and she to play one more, where is the one in USA before Chase Chamipon? I think its is in Philidapia? She should play this. And I think being the top 8 seeds are much better than 10 .

Right now, I seriously doubt that Davenport can be number one, or even 2.

Below is the chase points, as you can see Davenport is trailing Venus by 400 points. Martina Hingis will be number 4 at the year end with only 3946 points as she isn't playing any more for the rest of the season. As it stands, Venus is defending 200 points, Capriati 200 points and Davenport 700 points. So she has to do VERY well in her 3 events to end the year at number 2, and she has almost no chance at the top spot as Capriati will be earning points too.

01 J.CAPRIATI....... 4641
02 V.WILLIAMS...... 4128
03 M.HINGIS......... 3946
04 L.DAVENPORT....3739

Right now, with Venus committed to 2 more events and Davenport to 3. They're both playing Linz and Chase. So, Venus just has to do better at both events than Davenport to stay ahead of Davenport, and that is highly possible. If Venus wins both Linz and Chase, then she'll be within 100 points of Capriati assuming Capriati does well at Zurich and Chase, but doesn't win.

So it is all very close, with Hingis being the confirmed #4 unless Davenport screws up badly.

Year End Top 10:

1] Capriati
2] Venus
3] Davenport
4] Hingis
5] Clijsters
6] Henin
7] Mauresmo
8] Serena
9] Dokic
10] Seles

VENUS
Serena
Lindsay Jelena Maria

Mary : Monica : Svetlana : Sania : Jennifer : Amelie
Roddick : Grosjean : David : Djokovic
