Today 18-year-old French tennis player Alizé Cornet has alerted the police to the fact there have been a series of thefts on the O.W.T.T. She gave an interview to tell us more:
Reporter: So Alizé what can you tell us?
Well obviously not that much the police don’t want me to tell you everything I’ve told them, naturally. However shocking as it may sound something very personal and valuable to me as been stolen.
Reporter: When did this theft take place do you think?
I know exactly when it was taken. Right after my after my R16 match last week in Stanford, I left it in the changing rooms while I went to shower and then when I next came to use it, it was gone.
Reporter: It was taken in the changing room! But that must mean it was another player who stole it. Are there any players on the tour that would do that?
Well obviously there are. I didn’t want to believe it myself at 1st but you cannot deny the evidence, unfortunately I’ve learnt not all players are as nice as they seem in the media, believe you me. The press has no idea what goes on behind closed doors. I won’t mention any names though.
Reporter: Do you think the theft has affected your tennis?
Oh yes, most definitely. Without a doubt. No question about it. In fact I believe that may have been part of the thief’s motive! Sabotage!
Reporter: You mentioned a series of thefts, meaning there are others?
Yes, this is not a one off. I so far am the only one brave enough to have come forward. Both Caroline Wozniaki and Maria Sharapova have been robbed to, though at the moment they believe the items in question are merely lost. However they are suffering as much as I am.
Reporter: That’s it you can’t keep us in suspense any longer. What has been stolen from you?
Well I’m not sure the police would like this but someone has stolen my game! Yes, that’s right while I was not looking they have taken my talent and added it to their own! I can only hope it is returned safely soon before it is permanently mutilated and damaged by some other player
Well what a shock. While Miss Cornet did not mention any players she must have mentioned to the police some suspects. We ourselves have done some investigating. By our reasoning after a player has added the considerable talent of Alizé along with Miss Wozniaki and Sharapova to their game their results must have taken a turn for the better recently.
Strangely enough to coincide with the thefts Lindsay Davenport, a player notorious for her dislike of Alizé, has managed to break a string of early losses to make the Montreal final. Also worth a mention is the startling form of Jelena Jankovic since Stanford, causing her to go #1 in the USO Series. Perhaps by far the most suspicious however is the rise of Miss Benesova, who made some strange remarks at the net to Alizé about “beating her at her own game” today. Miss Benesova managed to reach the semi final of her 1st Tier I tornament, showing form and talent she has never displayed before but must have got from somewhere!
