The thing is, about the one that got away, if he was meant to be in your life, then he would’ve found his way back to you.
So, you moved on; you chose a different road. Good. Keep your eyes on that.
If you’re always looking in the rear-view mirror, you’re going to miss the turn you need to make in the road ahead of you.
And believe me, there’s always plenty of road ahead of you. Focus on that.

Re: S1 Week 21, Montreal, CAN, Tier I

Beat the Bully: A victim’s story

Alizé Cornet spoke to us today from her parent’s house in Nice; where she is taking a few days off before the Montreal tournament starts.

“There is a lot that goes on tour that the fans and media do not see. Officials like to know generally what is going on but it is not possible for them to know what happens in the locker rooms and so on.”

“I have always wanted to be a professional tennis player, when all the other kids wanted to be a fireman or a nurse I always said tennis player and I was always laughed at. No one ever thought I was good enough. So when the tour director Chris invited me a play at Wimbledon I was so happy, it is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me. I was so looking forward to playing on tour, making new friends and doing what I love to do – play tennis.”

“I am pleased to say that I have made many friends on tour and met some amazing people – Nicole, Jess and Anna to name a few – and to start with I loved my tennis too. But there are always a few that spoil it for everyone. I thought bullying ended when you got older and people grew up but unfortunately I was wrong; bullying is rife and alive on the O.W.T tour.”

“At first it started off as petty name calling or subtle comments made through the media about my tennis or quietly to another player, but just loud enough for me to hear. I could deal with that, at the end of the day we are opponents and not everyone will like you in life. But then it started to escalate and the comments got worse and worse and it wasn’t just about tennis anymore. Comments were made about my physical appearance, my accent and my nationality. But what hurt me most were comments about my family – there was no need to bring them into it.”

“But it didn’t stop there, the bullies started to threaten me. ‘If you don’t loose this match we’ll beat you up’ they said; I’m not the biggest person in the world, but I only really expect that kind of think from troubled children. When you hear it from a 6’4 giant and a girl with legs like tree trunks it is very scary. This started to get into my head and my tennis suffered, and you can see the effect it has had on my results. I just didn’t enjoy the environment of the tour anymore”

“I really thought it was time to go public, despite being told that if I did they would hurt me. So that others don’t have to go through what I am going through. I hope that if anyone reading this is bullied or knows of any bullying they will inform someone who can deal with it”

“I really hope now this is off of my chest I can start to play tennis and enjoy myself more”

Shahar is Bazaar?

A glamorized Shahar Peer poses during her Harper's Bazaar photo shoot.

Israel's Shahar Peer will grace the cover and appear in a six-page spread in this month's issue of Harper's Bazaar magazine. The two-time titlest and former world's number one took some time out of her schedule to sit down with some members of the press for a conference.

Press: When will the issue of Harper's be released?

Shahar: The issue will come out nation wide in the United States on June 10th. In Canada it is set to release June 11th.

Press: You were recently considering retirement, since then you have reached a round of 16 and a quarterfinal, are those the kind of results that will keep you around?

Shahar: I said I would play one more tournament and to be honest, I just couldn't put my racket down. After loosing in the second round, I said to myself 'I can do better than this!' And the next week I did a little better, but after that loss, I found myself saying 'I can do better!'

Press: There were a lot of players calling for you to withdraw your retirement proposal. Serena Williams, Elena Dementieva, and even Tatiana Golovin, how did that make you feel?

Shahar: It made me feel great to know that aside from all the bitchiness that there is on tour, most of us still care about each other as people.

Press: You face Tatiana Golovin in your first round match. Do you think she'll be "injured"?

Shahar: A lot of people don't get that Tatiana, at one point in time was seriously injured. But the thing is, she loves tennis, she loves to compete and she loves the tour. I think she came back too soon before her body had healed completely, which can cause a string of more injuries. I hope Tati will be inform and I wish her the best of luck.

Press: You've grown a lot throughout the past couple of months. What is the cause?

Shahar: I just don't think the high school-like cliques that were once on tour need to be here. I mean if you look at some of the articles that have gone up, it's some of the bitchiest things I've ever seen. I just don't think that I need to attack anyone in my interviews, it's just a waste of time.

Press: Alize Cornet recently had an article published, "Beat the Bully: A victim's story". Do you have any thoughts on it?

Shahar: Well here's the thing about Alize... She came on the tour making a lot of noise, which upset a lot of the tour veterans. She also became friends with some girls who don't have the best reputations on tour. So the bad image of her friends is shown on her.

Press: She's been attacked a lot in the media lately. Do you have any sympathy for her?

Shahar: Yes and no. It sucks that she's getting all this heat at once but she was also dishing out a lot at the same time. Hopefully she can take from this expierence and learn.

Press: What's your opinion on her?

Shahar: Well I've only seen one side to her that I like and that's her game. She has the oppertuninty to be a great player on the tour, she just needs to learn that these media spats and fights that she's been getting into are just going to hold her back.

Press: Do you see yourself and her being friends anytime soon?

Shahar: Who knows, I've never really talked to her but I wouldn't rule it out. I thought Serena and I wouldn't be friends because we didn't get along in the beginning but now we're pretty good friends.

Press: Thank you for your time. Good luck this week in Montreal!

Shahar: Thank you. Later gators.

And here you are, a black unicorn.
Mythical and mystical since the day that you were born.
