Welcome to the second Grand Slam of the season here at the French Open at the Stade de Rolland Garros. Home hopes Dechy and Golovin, the #10 and #11 seeds here will hope that they will be spurred onto a victory by their home crowd. Let's check out the favourites:-
#1 Elena Dementieva - the newly crowned #1 has won the last 2 tournaments, and is on a hot streak right now. She is definitely the one to beat here in Paris.
#2 Gisela Dulko - she is always in the latter stages of the tournaments, with her most recent title coming 2 weeks ago in Berlin. She can definitely play well on clay, and has the tools to come away with a victory here this week.
#4 Nicole Vaidisova - she seems to play well at the big events, and her runner up in Strasbourg should give her lots of confidence here in Paris.
#7 Serena Williams has found her form again, and has gone deep in the draw in the last 3 tournaments. She was so close to taking out Dementieva last week, and I have no doubt that Serena wil be training hard in preparation for Paris this week.
These are my top 4 for the title, but with so much at stake at a Grand Slam, with the pressures, the expectations, anything can happen, as shown in the Australian Open, when newcomer Cibulkova defeated all before her. Let's check out the draw...

Will the #1 be able to win her first Grand Slam title?
She is the new world #1, she has 1 Tier I title, she has 2 Tier II title, but she doesn't have any Slam yet. Her name is Elena Dementieva and the Russian is ready to countinue her awesome form in Paris.
Elena has won back to back titles in Rome and in Strasbourg. She has beaten Gisela Dulko, Nicole Vaidisova, Raluca Olaru, Serena Williams and Tatiana Golovin, so we can say she is in a really great form.
"I'm really happy that I'm #1 finally. This was one of my goals before the season. But now I have to win a really big tournament because I can't be #1 without Slam. You know this is my favourite Grand Slam because I love Paris and I love the clay as well. I have a tough draw with a lot of good players but I hope I'll be able to beat everyone."
Our beautiful Russian's first opponent will be probably the 14th seed Moore or the Australian Stosur. Good luck Lena!
Serena Williams found herself back in the past weeks, but it is just not enough, she knows how to get to the quarters, semis, final but she doesn't know what it takes to win the whole damn thing. Serena said after her last week semifinal elimination, "I was glad to find my rythm back in the past few weeks, but coming back to this level is just not enough to me. I'm bored of losing only when it matters. I hate clay I'm going to the FO for my fans cause I wouldn't mind skipping the Frech Open."
Serena had some pretty good results on this surface but it looks like it isn't enough to make her appreciate it. Serena added to in her post match press conference, "I'll try something else maybe... I don't know, I feel like I tried everything I could but nothing is working or I'll maybe just go with that same match plan and hoping I'll excute it just a little better. I wouldn't be surprise to go down early again, I mean I'm getting used to having some pretty good results for some weeks in a row and then having awful results for the next 4 weeks."
This is nothing really great to hear for the fans, but at least everyone knows we will have the chance to see Serena for at least one match on the red clay of Rland Garros...
