Just saying Peng and Hsieh don't win more servicegames when Peng is serving because of her serve.. it's because Hsieh is at the net...

Yeah have always wondered how people not knowing doubles is a team sport... Unless you're Serena, you cannot hold as easy as you want if you have a less skilled partner at net.

Melbourne.

Doubles is much more relying on serve than singles. If you serve well, your partner at the net has an easy life.

Many players who are more successful in doubles than in singles like Mladenovic, Babos, Voskoboeva, Vesnina, Hradecka, Hlavackova, Shvedova and so on, have good serves.

They're some great examples and sure good serve is always an add-up. But there are a lot more that serve is their weakness and manage to have better success in doubles. The game is a lot more than just serve if you cannot ace your way through.

And look at the current top 10, Peng/Hsieh, Errani/Vinci, Makarova/Vesnina, Peschke/Srebotnik, and Black/Mirza, how many can you honestly call really good servers? Even if you look into the 11-20 I can only see Hradecka and Petrova as big servers who somehow are fading. (The case of Petrova is not fair and accurate though.... )

Melbourne.
