Osaka DoublesVulture R1:[1]Kops-Jones/Spears def. Eguchi/Namigata 62 63

Cohen/Zhou or Kumkhum/Miyamura is waiting for them in the quarters.

The fact that getting through such field is enough to get almost ahead of Kirilenko/Petrova in the race for the 4th place in the doubles YEC.

^They've won more titles this season than Kirilenko/Petrova. San Diego, Seoul and Tokyo. If they make it over them then it is deserved.

Do you really believe that? They've played like 10 more tournaments thank Kiri and Nadia. And please don't even compare their years.

Even if they win this tournament, they'll still be behind Kirilenko/Petrova in the race. They'll need to reach the finals here to have any kind of effect in terms of closing the gap and Moscow will almost definitely be the decider on who gets the fourth spot.

Neither of them is in the top 15 of the doubles rankings.
And even Kirilenko/Petrova's lost finals are much more worthy than Kops-Jones/Spears's titles.

Of course they will deserve their place if they get ahead of Petrova and Kirilenko in terms of points, but still they will be highly overestimated and overranked. They have the potential, but are far from being one of the very best teams in the world right now.

Would you defend them that much if they were not an all-American duo?I doubt.

Ya'll make it sound like they are ONLY playing Osaka for the 4th YEC spot. They played here last year and made the semis, and Abi always plays Osaka when she does the Asian swing. Raquel used to the Linz/Luxembourg finish to the season, but needless to say even if they were not in the hunt for the YEC race they would be here, so I don't know what the problem is...

Kirilenko/Petrova deserve to make it no doubt for being a great team, but they haven't played enough due to some injuries/bad results and another team passes them in the race, then that team also earned their way and deserve to play whether you like it or not.

Mathematically having more points than another team is unfair? It's a game of points to make YEC, not who is the best plays there sadly. Hence the Williams Sisters only qualifying 3 times and playing the event once.

It's fun, at least doubles has a little tight race this year to decide who gets the final spot.

I like numerous teams that aren't all-American. I have been all over this forum supporting numerous doubles players. So you just sound stupid. There are tons of teams I cheer for over Kops-Jones/Spears, but sadly they don't have a shot of making it.

And also I wouldn't knock playing Osaka and tournament whoring e-Donkey as a King/Shvedova fan when they did the same thing at the end of last season to try to beat out Kirilenko/Azarenka. And attempted as well in 2010 by playing Seoul to make it, but didn't need to go to the extra measures since Venus announced she was done for the season (Serena later announced as well). They were the fifth team in both cases and whored their way to the 4th spot in 2011 and got lucky in 2010. It's a part of the game.

Kops-Jones/Spears have a once in a lifetime opportunity, like any smart team would do, they will do whatever it takes to achieve it. If they succeed, it is well deserved.
