Re: 1999 French Open Doubles

It WAS funny how AnnaTina played their doubles, then how Serena slammed the final ball away. The other team were flinching .

The interview made me too.

That interview!

I love it when players force themselves to say a little something in the language of the country they are playing in.

Spice Girls oh how I miss watching their craftiness on the court. It really shows, though, that Hingis and Kournikova were true doubles players while Venus and Serena simply play a singles game on the doubles court. Still very effective, but not the way it should be played.

Maybe, but as Nina says...

And you think that Hingis and Kournikova, if they had the chance to play like Venus and Serena, would turn it down for the sake of how it should be played

There is no "had the chance" in sports. You either have the ability or not. Hingis and Kournikova are not power hitters, though both can smack the ball with decent power. They win with craft, precision and variety and they play doubles how it is supposed to be played; at the net!

Of course now that every girl is a power hitter, doubles has completely changed though only the elite ball bashers have true success. Others are simply decent.

Also, Hingis is known as one of the best doubles player ever. Not so much Venus and Serena as they both need each other to win. Martina won a Grand Slam with Lucic at the age of 16, enough said.

Re: 1999 French Open Doubles

LOL at Sanchez-Vicario's knickers.

That was a good doubles tournament, I believe Lindsay teamed up with Mary Pierce.

Lindsay Davenport

Elena Bovina | Anastasia Myskina | Flavia Pennetta
Fernando Verdasco | Tommy Haas

Q. Give us an update on the kid.
A. Are you serious?

you say it like V&S have teamed up with soo many other players and lost when that isn't even true. Is it their fault that they work amazingly well as a team- in a team sport for that matter-?

If Tina had a sister as good as her I doubt she'd have to be teaming up with the Lucics of this world
