Italian Travel

Hi hi hi hi
I will going to Florence with a friend for about a week at the end of December...Was wondering if anyone had any tips on where to go, what to do, how to get to the outlets outside the city, etc etc etc...
But also (most importantly), my friend is leaving three days before me. She leaves on the 1st to go back to work. I won't be leaving Italy until the 4th. I wanted to go to another Italian city that's easily accessible from Florence for two days. I would traveling alone and would need to be back to Florence early on the third to prepare for flying back to NY. Any advice on which city to go to? I like to look at ancient sites, museums, go shopping, sit at cafes, etc. etc.
I was considering Milan, only because it's the closest major city I know with reliable transportation.
I would love hear from anyone with other cities in mind and also with some tips on Milan...
Thank you thank you

Thank you. I've been to Venice, and I really didn't like it. I'm really, really afraid of birds, and because I'm travling alone, I want to make this side-trip as simple as it can be...

Re: Italian Travel

I lived near Venice and i dont like it neither, because of the birds and the bad smell lol
But i know that Florence is not very far from Rome and i think you should go there, it's a beautiful city. Milan is not bad but if it's for me i would prefer to go to Rome for sure

Re: Italian Travel

thanks maddyus. i've actually been to Rome. I spent almost a week there a couple of years ago and would def love to go back, but right now, I'd prefer to visit another city. I think I might really just try Milan...or maybe Torino or Siena. A lot of people are suggesting those to me. Verona might be nice, but other than the Roman ampitheater, I hear there's not much to do.
