Little italians grow

In Bergheim, Austria, in this week a G4 tournament (under 18) has been played. There were several italians (Karin Knapp, Federica Grazioso, Caterina Marusic, Natasha Brescia, Corinna Dentoni, Astrid Besser) and three of them reached semifinals. Finalist were Astrid Besser and Karin Knapp, with Astrid winning 57 75 63. Astrid was born in 1989 and, as you'll remember, she reached quarterfinals in italian championship last december (lost against Nathalie Vierin).

Astrid and Karin won doubles without losing any set.

Here are the complete results http://www.tennisturnier.at/tennisau...sp?newsid=2577

Congrats to our young italian girls

Nice to hear there are some promising Italian youngsters in the wings.

I wish I could say the same about the men. I had high hopes with Filippo, Potito, and Co. but it's been a rough go for all of them in Oz with none advancing to the second round.

Another win for Italy in U18

Giulia Gabba won last week the International Junior Tournament of Venezuela U18 (G1)
With this win Giulia is the best italian U18 (n. 26 in ITF junior ranking).

Giulia is also the best italian U18 in WTA ranking (n. 455)

Obviously congrats to Giulia

I add that in these days she's playing the "Copa Kia Motors - Pony Malta Cup" in Colombia (another G1) and I hope she will play junior Australian Open next week.

Good luck Giulia!

I've begun to like Giulia since Wimbledon 2004 (juniors obviously ) and she really seems like an interesting prospect

Giulia won again!

One week after the success in Venezuela, Giulia Gabba won the Copa Kia Motors - Pony Malta Cup U18 (G1) in Barranquilla, Colombia.

Here is Giulia scores:
1st round: (5) Giulia Gabba ITA d. (q) Chen Astrugo ISR 60 63
2nd round: (5) Giulia Gabba ITA d. Eunice David CAN 60 63
3rd round: (5) Giulia Gabba ITA d. (10) Fernanda HERMENEGILDO (BRA) 63 36 63
quarterfinals: (5) Giulia Gabba ITA d. (4) Florencia Molinero 67(5) 61 63
semifinals: (5) Giulia Gabba ITA d. (2) Bibiane Schoofs 63 67(5) 60
final: (5) Giulia Gabba ITA d. (3) Estefania Balda 46 63 61

She didn't win any tiebreak in two weeks, but she didn't discourage herself for this

Congrats to Giulia again!

Unfortunately she isn't playing Australian Open, where italian girls are represented by Sara Errani, tonight playing in the 2nd round, while Stella Menna, the other italian girl playing Australian Open, was eliminated in the 1st round

A good result from U16. Today they won the qualifying round (zone D) of the Winter Cup

Italian team was composed from
Astrid Besser (I think she is the most promising italian girl)
Corinna Dentoni
Federica Grazioso

Finals will be in France 25-27 February. Good luck girls!

TC Maniago gave hospitality to this tournament and they have a good site

Sara Errani won single and doubles titles in the ITF $10,000 in Melilla, Spain.
This is the first win for Sara and push her into the top 500 in WTA Ranking. I hope that it is the first of a long long series of wins

I also remember that Romina Oprandi, after has been far from playing for a lot of time caused by an injury, won one week ago the single title in the ITF $10,000 in Mallorca, Spain (her second win in career). Now she also reached the top 500 in WTA Ranking

Another win for Romina!
She won the single title in the ITF $10,000 of Gran Canaria http://tenispain.com/tenispain/torne...p=ITF&&an=2005 without to lose any set

This week there is also an italian final in the Napoli Women's Tournament http://www.napoliwomenstournament.com/2005/ between Anna Floris (several good tournaments for her after a long period of inactivity) and Raffaella Bindi.

Good notices form U18. In the 23rd International Junior Championships of Croatia, a G1 tournament, we had all italian semifinals

Semifinals
(3) Sara ERRANI (ITA) d. (10) Corinna DENTONI (ITA) 26 64 62
(2) Karin KNAPP (ITA) d. (13) Astrid BESSER (ITA) 63 63

Final
(2) Karin KNAPP (ITA) d. (3) Sara ERRANI (ITA) 63 762

Another very good result for Astrid and Corinna (I remember that they both are U16).

Here you can find the details http://www.itftennis.com/juniors/tou...ent=1100010667

I repeat myself: another win for Romina! And I think that this isn't the last

Romina won in Roma Parioli http://www.tennisclubparioli.it/i-ne...d=89&sez=News; also this time she hasn't lost any set.

Well done Romina

Great match for Giulia Gabba against Claudine Schaul in Rome qualies (she was there with a WC)! She beat her 62 63 and now she'll play against Tian Tian Sun or Angela Haynes. If she'll win she'll be in MD

Good luck Giulia

Unfortunately Sara Errani (a WC also for her) lost a fighted match against Catalina Castano 64 57 64. However a good performance for Sara
