Cmon Venus! Im feeling super positive about Hong Kong!

Not an awful draw, but I was hoping for easier. Puig better not attempt to drag again.

Muguruza is already strongly hinting that she'll be withdrawing. Would've been nice if she did it sooner so that they could reshuffle the draw (#3 Venus would slide into the #1 slot) but I think it's too late for them to reshuffle. Sigh.

Nicole hasn't qualified yet. ;) There are 3 qualifying rounds in that draw. She still needs 1 more win.

Goo Venus!! Hopefully she makes and wins Singapura :D!!
Weather in HK right now is identical to the weather in January, when she usually wins the HK Open.
Must be cause of that asteroid passing by, and Venus...

Anyway.... YEC scenarios.

Current, after Beijing:
(1. S.Williams 9945)
2. Halep 5790
3. Muguruza 4511
4. Sharapova 4322
5. Kvitova 3491
6. Kerber 3330
7. Radwanska 3245
8. Safarova 3221
9. Pennetta 3153
--
10. Bacsinzsky 3133
11. Suarez Navarro 3030
--
12. V.Williams 2982
13. Pliskova 2950

Venus can get up to 3261 at best with a Hong Kong W. She needs a F to have a chance of getting into qualifying position.
1R - 2982
2R - 3011
QF - 3041
SF - 3091
F - 3161
W - 3261

Pennetta needs to make SF of Tianjin to stay ahead of Venus:
1R - 3153
2R - 3182
QF - 3212
SF - 3262
F - 3332
W - 3432

Safarova needs a QF in Linz to stay ahead of Venus, though she's also playing Moscow. 1 win in Moscow would be enough for her too. Her non slam results are quite poor, so any win in Linz or Moscow will count in her best 16 results. Her total after Linz:
1R - 3221
2R - 3250
QF - 3280
SF - 3330
F - 3400
W - 3500

Radwanska needs a F in Tianjin to stay ahead of Venus. A SF in Moscow would be enough also. Her best 16 results are stacked, so she needs to have deep runs in order for her points to count. Her total after Tianjin:
QF or earlier - 3245
SF - 3255
F - 3325
W - 3425

Pliskova is still slightly relevant too, I guess. Tianjin is her only event remaining for the season. Venus should stay ahead of her, barring disaster. Pliskova needs to make F to have any chance of passing Venus:
QF or earlier - 2950
SF - 2955
F - 3025
W - 3125

Muguruza has officially withdrawn. So now what happens?

As for the draw, the 4-time HK Champion should come through. It's Ozaki (?), Puig, Stosur, Kerber, and whoever comes from the top half. Puig and Stosur can be tricky, but Venus should come through. Her real test would be Kerber if she stays in the same part of the draw.

And we need these players losing early:

7. Radwanska 3245
8. Safarova 3221
9. Pennetta 3153
--
10. Bacsinzsky 3133 (NOT PLAYING NEXT WEEK)
11. Suarez Navarro 3030 (NOT PLAYING NEXT WEEK)

This is it. Qualify for this thing, V! Oh, and this happened:

Schiavone vs Kerber (H2H 3-1 with Schiavone defeating her this year 6-1 6-1) :oh: HK trying to dismantle her...

Yea the way I understand it is, if Venus wins.....she has to bank on CSN not winning Moscow and Flavia losing before the SF. Bonderenko and Pereira are her QF opponent. Both are in good form. Also, this doesn't even factor in Sharapova WD'ing. I actually think she's going to try to play. Whether she WDs after losing her matches, that's another story. However, she had that big interview about wanting to prioritize for the YEC/Fed Cup final. So I don't think we were to read into the Wuhan retirement/Beijing WD. Here's to hoping.

This would be so much easier if Flavia just dropped the mic and retired. I can't complain, a lot of luck in Wuhan and Serena's WD are what put Venus in this position in the first place.

I want to makeout with whatever Tournament Director effectively eliminated Timea from the YEC. GOD IS REAL [/Beyonce]

ETA: I didn't even realize in my scenario, Flavia could just take a WC into Moscow. We could hope Lucie doesn't win another match. Totally possible given her condition. Or a Halepeno WD.

Live WTA Race Rankings According to that A-Rad is mathematically ahead of Venus.

Ugh @ Lucie deciding to show up. I was banking on her being MIA for the rest of the season.

Are there any WCs still left for Moscow? Venus should sit on one and play there accordingly. She isn't desperate like the rest of these ladies tho. Doubt she'll do it.

Why the fuck is Woz still vulturing? Isn't she mathematically eliminated from the YEC? Rest up for the Mini-YEC. Idiotic scheduling from her this year.

Radwanska/Wozniacki already took 2 of the 3 WCs, including the one that's "reserved" for a top 20 player. I'm surprised that Pliskova didn't enter didn't take the third WC, unless they denied her and wanna save it for Vesnina (lol) or something.

But yeah, no chance Venus enters. The courts are criminally slow and she has never done well there. Plus it would only tire her out for Singapore, so vulturing there wouldn't even be worth it. It's ridiculous that they don't give the players a week off before the YEC like the ATP does.

Sigh. If only she won that damn Keys match in January or made the Miami F or felt better during that Istanbul-Cincy stretch. Playing Hong Kong probably wouldn't even be necessary. :crying2:
