Arrow Newspaper articles on Kim Week Nov 17 2002

I don't see where I can post this article exactly, so I decided to start this new thread... hope you don't mind.

This article was in "De Morgen" today

If Kim Clijsters really wants some rest, she has to go abroad. today she gets on the plane to Australia to enjoy some holiday at the Hewitt family. Yesterday she had a last official duty and celebration in the Expodroom hall in Bree, her hometown. "But after this I do not want to hear nothing about tennis for a couple of weeks", says Clijsters, who wednesday, after her tiring journey from LA, gloriously won teh exhibition against Justine Henin 6-1 6-4. "The most important is to get rest now. Otherwise I will not be hungry enough next season."
the upcoming weeks Clijsters will travel through Australia with buyfriend Lleyton Hewitt, who is still palying the Masters in Shanghai now. "Outside Adelaide I heven't seen much of the country. This has to change now. I would like to travel around in Queensland."
Clijsters mind is not yet with next season. After her Masters victory the expectations will be high, she realizes: "I know now that I can beat the best in the world, but that is not yet a guarantee to win a Grand Slam tournament. However I know that I am capabel of doing so." And while Henin already agreed to play Fed Cup, Clijsters still doubts: "Maybe. I haven't given it thought yet." Father Lei Clijsters clarifies: "Kim hesitating to play Fed Cup is not a financial matter. It's not that Kim does not want to play for her country. On the contrary, she loves it, especially for the fans. But in the past, the event wasn't always professionally organized. there's always small problems, like Kim not being able to play with her own sponsor. a better organisation would help a lot."
The Masters title makes Kim more interesting for sponsors, Lei notices. Offers he and Kim refuse now. "Kim still has contracts, and they take up enough of her time when she's in Belgium. And she is only a month in Belgium as it is, I don't want her to spend all her time with sponsor things."
The contract with Fila ends this season. father Clijsters negotiates a new contract with them, but Yonex , Lleyton's racket sponsor, is interested. "Yonex is interesting as clothing sponsor, but wants Kim to play with their rackets as well. And that is a sensitive subject of course, because Kim is used to her Babolat racket and does not want to change. Should Yonex design a similar racket, chances of her changing would increase."

...but maybe then Kim would get her own clothing and not have to share a design with multiple other players (eg. Jelena with the grey outfit, Jelena and Jennifer with the red...)...and they might design something nice because it's Kim

Pleeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase stay with Fila, or go back to Nike (even better
)

I never liked Demantieva's and Seles' clothing. I'ld rather have Jenny and Jelena wear the same clothes than Kim wearing Yonex.

And OH MY GOD, how dare they make her switch rackets!
Kim has been playing with her Babolat racket since like ...... ever.
( and I play with the same racket, the blue babolat pure drive, and it's a good one.... trust me)

*a twisted mind is a joy forever*

Noooo!! Noooo!! Yonex clothes are worse than FILA clothes! Is the any news that FILA may extend the clothing contract? I wish Adidas would sign Kim! They do the best clothes!

I liked her red clothes at the Masters... but she had to share the design with Capriati & Dokic... I want Kim to have her own sponsor... but please not Yonex, I took a look on their website & I don't really like their clothes...

But she has to keep her racket !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't believe Fila would just let her go. I mean she just won the Tour Championships and she's ranked #4 in the world. Why would they let her go?

Who said they are just letting her go? All that has been mentioned here is the interest of other sponsors.
