Serena calls Kim a friend

From Serena's interview after her win yesterday:

Q. Do you have any friends on the tour outside of Venus?
SERENA WILLIAMS: Well, yeah. I talk to -- well, Chanda and I really get along well. Alexandra and I, Alexandra Stevenson, we're really good friends. AND KIM, SHE'S A VERY NICE GIRL. WE ALWAYS TALK. There's a lot of players - LisaRaymond, Rene Stubbs. We definitely get along.

Prayed through the nights
felt so alone
suffered from alienation
carried the weight on my own
Had to be strong
so I believed
and now I know I've succeeded
in finding the place I conceived

We all know Kim is a nice girl and Kim always talks to anyone. She doesn't care if it's Serena or an other player.

A man may fight for many things. His country, his friends, his principles, the glistening ear on the cheek of a golden child. But personally, I'd mud-wrestle my own mother for a ton of cash, an amusing clock and a sack of French porn.

I didn't know that Serena and Kim were speaking to each other!! I thought the williams' sisters didn't like to speak to other girls

I think

Come on Kim - I think players have always said Serena talks to other players and is the more sociable of the sisters. Venus isn't rude or anything - she just is more of a loner. That is what I have always heard anyway...

What I want to say isn't that Venus and Serena aren't sociable (Not at all, I've seen Venus in Antwerp and she's very very good!!!!) But what I wanted to say is that when they are together, they prefer staying together and isolating themselves more than the others are doing.

Hmmm

Rhytmboy - why didn't she mention Jelena then??

Come on Kim - Gotcha! I agree there! I think it would be odd to be very friendly with all the people you play week in and week out, though. I mean, surely you need some friends so you can have a good time and have a support system, but at the same time you have to try and be competitive and want to beat them.

Yeah it's funny how people become friends-they did so after Jen beat Kimmy in the 2001 RG Final!
