Sadly, she has a total cakewalk.

Well you never know since there is no clay specialist at the top and her game has change in the past few years. I think her game now is more suited for clay and than anytime in the past. However I do prefer Sveta/Kvitty winning it than Maria.

Re: General discussion thread

How has Maria's game changed to become more suited to clay? It is pretty much the same to me (hit hard, flat and deep, side-to-side and grunt loudly while doing so). The only difference perhaps is learning how to move a little better and losing her footing.

She has had a cake walk draw thus far, that is true but it shall not always be during the tourny.

Sveta lost ( I hoped Errani really played well).

Is there any other style of play than flat blasting of the ball? Does anybody know how to play tennis?

In clay court tennis its important how to move on clay if you can't move in clay you are useless in clay, which something Maria got better in the past few years as well as her rallying skill also important in a slow surface. So you never know about her winning RG. However I'm now can say she is not going to win Wimbledon her serve is a liability now anyone who's decent can attack and broke her serve.

Well a few players get a cake draw so far. Including my Petra

Errani and Strousr are most clay courters of all players left in the draw and if Strousr manage to reach the final and play against Maria she got a good chance as well. Anyway I'm looking forward on Justine's commentary today.

Re: General discussion thread

This RG again just goes to show what a killer draw she had in 2010. I can't believe such amount of bad luck. I blame myself.

Start preparing for 2013 now. Maybe being there and commentating might spur her on again.

Please don't blame yourself. Anyway it's very difficult for player to come back as they get older. Anyway, as long as she is happy that will be fine for me.

Re: General discussion thread

I will prepare for 2013.lol. Can't she just be a independent player off the WTA, playing random tournies etc?

Yes, Maria has learned to move better on the surface but she has not faced anyone who has not given her what she loves: hard flat balls. She used to fare fairly well even when moving like cow on ice. She needs a semi-clay courter even, or someone not a shortie. Boy, we have to concede that Maria Sharapova has been blessed with some of the easiest draws in her lifetime.

Re: General discussion thread

The thought of Sharapova winning RG which seems inevitable right now is disgusting and it is depressing to say the least. I think I am going to hide somewhere for the next couple of days and pretend that nothing is going on.

Re: General discussion thread

Pova hasn't played her semi, she need to win two more matches, and it's not a sure thing. So, no need to hide just yet.

Re: General discussion thread

Well, Petra's game ( or lack thereof) won't deter Pova now. But, remember my dream? Maybe the Justine in my dream was Errani.lol. Pova is so steady with her shots, flat and hard. It is amazing to see this kind of game on clay.lol. Well Agassi won the FO with that kind of game. But I shudder to think that Pova might win it (but I'd take that over Serena.lol)

Re: General discussion thread

Errani doesn't stand a chance, she is too underpowered. And it will be her first slam final.

Kvitova is hopeless on clay. Oh well, the doom is upon me. Something I dreaded the most is about to happen. But realistically, it was inevitable and at least I won't fret about it anymore.

The first RG final I won't watch since God knows when.

Oh come on, you guys are too much. Pova deserves to win RG.

Give back 2006 US Open to Justine

Re: General discussion thread

Debby, I have nothing against Maria, I just felt that it's super unfair that Maria will have a career slam ahead of Justine if she wins RG with such a cakewalk draw. Justine as always never had an easy draw in all of the grand slams and yet she was forced to retire while trying to fulfill her dream of winning Wimbledon due to that god damned fall!

Game-wise, if you asked me who played a better tennis, I can be sure to say Justine even if minus off the biased part. But history nv remembers how good the player is, how tough the player has to go through to win a GS only the achievements not the process

Ju is unfortunate and the thought of her watching Maria won the whole thing at her own garden just killed me.

Sometimes I tend to think that god isn't going too easy on Justine but well whatever..so long as Ju is living well and happy.

Sorry Maria and her fans, I wished for Sara to win this RG even if the chances are low. Maria can always win other GS.

In any case, I'll congratulate whoever wins the tournament but I may stop watching tennis for a very long time if Maria wins (Let me reiterate that I have nothing against her) unless there's a Juju look & game-play alike player surfaced 25 years later.

That said, I nv was a tennis fan to begin with anyway, I'm just a Justine Henin's tennis fan.
