No Venus or Serena in Indian Wells

I do not understand why any of the Willams girls is not playing in a tier 1 event that is taking place in the US. Any particular reason?

They're babies. Can you imagine a baseball player not playing in Cincinnati because he was once booed there?

Give me a break.

Who cares what you think,
it's not you. Get over yourself!

Dorcas Monjimbo,
Venus had to pull out of a SF match against Serena at the last
minute due to injury, which the wta physician confirmed. And
advised Venus as well that it'd be in her best interest not to play.

The next day before the finals i believe, Venus and Richard were coming down the stands to take their seats for the final to support Serena, they were booed and Richard claims he heard racial slurs being thrown at him and Venus. And IIRC, Serena was booed as well taking the court and throughout the match, which she won.

Needless to say, The Williams Family was highly offended and vowed never to play at that venue ever again. And they have kept to their word.

Re: No Venus or Serena in Indian Wells

thats odd. Most people who get booed want to come back and
beat the crap out of everyone to shut the crowd up. shouting boos is one thing. slurs are not acceptable, period.

I'm sure they get booed at other tournaments as well.

regardless, it is their choice not to play with or without a reason.

It was 2001 and yea it was pretty bad (there used to be a link of it on youtube, but it appears to have gone now)

Thank you for everything Mercedes, now please be nice to Socrates for me, perhaps fetch him a bird or two. We love you, always.
