How is Romania ranked so low with 4 players in the top 100? Feel bad for whoever has them in their group.

The player rankings does not count in Fed Cup.

Winter Is Coming

"Fine words." Tyrion was unimpressed. "Words are wind. Who is this bloody savior?"
"A dragon." The cheesemonger saw the look on his face at that, and laughed. "A dragon with three heads."

That Romania is not seeded is a joke. The seeding should be according to WTA ranking of the nation`s 2 best singles players. Halep is #11 and Cirstea #22. That should be enough to get them a seeding - and that would be fair. Not only to them, but also to their opponents.

To make the seeding according to the Fed Cup ranking is not fair at all

A fair seeding would be to take the WTA ranking of the nation`s 2 best singles players (who play Fed Cup). And the nations with lowest numbers should be seeded. Also in World Group 2 this should be the rule for seeding.

Also it`s not fair at all that the nations that play in the tough Europe/Africa Zone get the same points as the nations in Asia Zone and America Zone. It is way more difficult to get out of Europe/Africa Zone than to get out of Asia Zone and America Zone. For Europe/Africa Zone the nations should get twice as many points as in the weak Asia Zone and America Zone. And 3 nations from Europe/Africa Zone should qualify for World Group 2 Play-Offs, and the 4th should be decided between Asia Zone winner vs America Zone winner. That would be fair. Right now the nations in Europe/Africa Zone have disadvantages. There is the highest quality.

Serena: "We have great personalities like Jelena (Jankovic) on the tour."
Jelena: "If I had to pick someone after me, I'd pick Serena."

Re: 2014 Europe Africa Group I

If Romania doesn't go through
Even without Simona, Sorana and Monica should be more than enough to take them through

Daniilidou. Venus. Azarenka. Halep. Wickmayer.
Cornet. Ivanovic. Vesnina.. Vaidisova. Krajicek.
Paszek. Begu. Cirstea. Lisicki. Pavlyuchenkova.
Pironkova. Stephens. Tatishvili. McHale. Flipkens.
Grammatikopoulou ~ Papamichail ~ Sakkari
I'm obsessed with the Greek players. Deal with it.

Do you really think Romania advances to WG 2 Play-Offs without Halep, Cirstea + Niculescu ?

No way. There are so many nations who could beat Romania without them. Romania has only #61 Cadantu, #130 Begu, #159 Dulgheru and #171 Mitu. Cadantu is overranked and so many girls can beat her. Begu is totally out of form. And Dulgheru is far away from her best form too. One Top 100 player is not enough.

Belgium (Flipkens, Wickmayer)
Austria (Meusburger, Mayr-Achleitner)
Croatia (Tomljanovic, Vekic, Martic, Lucic)
Belarus (Azarenka, Govortsova)
Ukraine (Svitolina, Tsurenko, Kichenok, Zanevska)
Great Britain (Robson, Konta, Watson)
Netherlands (Bertens, Rus, Krajicek)

Romania needs their best team to advance to WG 2 Play-Offs. They need Halep + Cirstea

Serena: "We have great personalities like Jelena (Jankovic) on the tour."
Jelena: "If I had to pick someone after me, I'd pick Serena."

Romania hasn't sent a full strength team got years, which is why they are ranked so low.

I meant that even without having Halep, if they have Cirstea and Niculescu they should still advance

Daniilidou. Venus. Azarenka. Halep. Wickmayer.
Cornet. Ivanovic. Vesnina.. Vaidisova. Krajicek.
Paszek. Begu. Cirstea. Lisicki. Pavlyuchenkova.

no . i think we can beat Austria , Ukraine or Netherlands without them. Cadantu is underrated , Begu can come back and Dulgheru played well in the end of the season in 1st and 2nd rounds , but her fitness was very poor .

Simona Halep
A.Radwanska Krunic Hampton Puig Bouchard Dulgheru Nara Cibulkova Bencic

That still wasn't what I meant

I meant that even if Halep does not play, as long as Cirstea and Niculescu WILL PLAY then Romania should be good for promotion

Bold means confirmed
Vekic and Konjuh already played last year. Iva Majoli said she wants to build on future on them! I don't think she will invite Lucic as she is 30+ years. Also, if Mrdeza will be slump, doubt about her too! Most realistic would be: Tomljanovic, Vekic, Martic, Konjuh. Somehow, I don't think it will be final team, probably some of them will not be able to play (probably Tomljanovic cause she trains in USA and this is in Budapest). There is no much tournaments in Europe in that part of year and I doubt she will travel just for FC to Europe. So, I would say Jurak will replace some of them, but most probably Tomljanovic.

Ana Konjuh | Donna Vekic | Mirjana Lucic-Baroni | Ana Ivanovic | Nicole Vaidisova

I made the teams based on Indoor Hard form. Ana had just lost to Nina Zander and Donna was in horrific form so I tentatively didn't include them. Croatia has such immense depth that their team is hard to predict but I take what you are saying and it is very possible that will be the team

Clemens Trimmel is new Austrian Fed Cup captain. Jürgen Waber didn`t want to continue because he focuses on coaching Barbara Haas and Melanie Klaffner (and other young Austrian talents) at Linz. Team-manager on Trimmel`s side will be former WTA player Marion Maruska.

Trimmel nominated Yvonne Meusburger, Patricia Mayr-Achleitner, Tamira Paszek and Sandra Klemenschits for Budapest. And they all said yes ! Klaffner will be the substitute.

Serena: "We have great personalities like Jelena (Jankovic) on the tour."
Jelena: "If I had to pick someone after me, I'd pick Serena."

Re: 2014 Europe Africa Group I

So many good teams
But it will be so annoying that there are 17 and not 16

There are always a lot of teams with good chances to make it through, but this year I think more than ever
Belgium, Belarus, Romania, Great Britain, Ukraine, Austria, Croatia, Netherlands, etc.
And teams with outside chances like Slovenia, Portugal, Hungary, Israel...

Daniilidou. Venus. Azarenka. Halep. Wickmayer.
Cornet. Ivanovic. Vesnina.. Vaidisova. Krajicek.
Paszek. Begu. Cirstea. Lisicki. Pavlyuchenkova.
Pironkova. Stephens. Tatishvili. McHale. Flipkens.

Slovenia will be lucky to avoid relegation No one plays for them ever...

If Sasha returns to Indoor GOAT Belarus has a good shot but Azarenka won't play. She really should this year though because she could face some decent opposition...
