World Group 2: Poland vs Belgium

Fed Cup World Group 2: Poland vs Belgium

Date: 6-7 February 2010
Venue: Arena Łuczniczka
Stadium Capacity: 6100
Surface: indoor carpet (taraflex tournoi)
Website: www.pzt.pl/fedcup

Poland and Belgium have never previously met. Poland has spent most of its recent years in Europe/Africa Zone Group I whereas Belgium has been a fixture in the top two divisions since 1996.

Poland's best Fed Cup performance came in 1992 when it reached the quarterfinals. The Polish team gained promotion from Europe/Africa Zone Group I in 2009, beating Japan in the play-offs.

Belgium won its sole title in 2001 when the all-star line-up of Justine Henin and Kim Clijsters teamed up to defeat Russia. In 2009, Belgium retained its place in World Group II with a 3-2 victory over Canada in the play-offs.

Re: World Group 2: Poland vs Belgium

News:

It's time for grouping!

In a week at this time we will know if Poland will fight for World Group or will fight for staying in Second Group. So far the preparations to Poland-Belgium match are in progress. On weekend taraflex surface in Łuczniczka Arena was laid which was afterwards supervised by Polish Tennis Association officials and Tomasz Wiktorowski - the captain of Polish team. They had no reservations. Slowly Agnieszka Radwańska, Marta Domachowska, Klaudia Jans and Alicja Rosolska are coming. The grouping begins on Monday but Radwańska will arrive on Tuesday afternoon. Then the first official training will be hold. Also the Belgians are coming: on Monday the captain Sabine Appelmans will come, the team leader Yanina Wickmayer will arrive on Wednesday.

Re: World Group 2: Poland vs Belgium

Today there was a first training in Łuczniczka. Jans&Rosolska practised with Marcin Domka (their coach) and Tomasz Wiktorowski (Fed Cup captain). At the end of the training there was a "match" between them - only volleys Coach and captain won

You can win a free two-day ticket to Fed Cup. Just answer the following question and send it:

In which year Agnieszka Radwańska won a Junior Wimbledon?

mail: online@pomorska.pl

The winner will be posted on Tuesday on this website: www.pomorska.pl/sport

They host also Indoor Championships of Poland (in a different hall though ). I may be going there with my friend who plays the Championships, still I have to determine the details.
