Re: PAW 2008 Semifinal and Play-off!

Congrats Germany! Good win.

But I do not like the rules of calculating at all. If the team is small and there are few participants from the country (2 or 3), it has less chances to win than the team of many players, as the last team chooses the best three results out of 4 or even 5, that makes big teams chances much much better. Not a fair thing.

Maybe we really should reconsider the whole thing! Now, it would be the right time to post proposals! It seems, that's there's not so much of interest at all. We could have much more participants.

Ok, you think it's a marketing issue. But there's a Fed Cup thread in the PAW subforum and this thread here! I think most of people should know!

Re: PAW 2008 Semifinal and Play-off!

There should be a sticky with all the rules - scoring, number of picks, eligibility for teams (if any), captains nominations and duties (I understand they can make supplementary picks for other team members), notes about late picks regarding the time zone differences and so on.

yeah but I still think that its a marketing issue Maybe when PAW Fed Cup is coming there should be a post at the beginning of the regular PAW threads or something ... PMs to all PAWers is ... too hard , maybe we should think about something

Ok, this shouldn't be a problem!

also @archer and Youf: Yes, we should make the rules sticky. But before, we should think of the system. Keeping it as it is now or has anyone other ideas? Right now, there is following modus:
2 players - average value.
3 players - average value.
4 players - average value of best three players.
5 players - average value of best four players.
Am I right?

I don't know how to change it but in principal I agree that there should be some advantage for bigger teams as it should encourage people in participating!

Another question, we have to deal with: Late change of picks! In this case, this can be a problem as SUPPs are involved:
E.g. you have PAW01 .... PAW16 and SUPP01..SUPP10. Then someone realizes that he's got a high point SUPP01(or SUPP08 etc)! But as all regular picks seems to be played, he could try to change one of the original picks to some match which will be unlikely to be played to get his SUPP into the calculations... understandable? So, in this case we need to have clear rules!

Re: PAW 2008 Semifinal and Play-off!

In my opinion picks should not be changed. Since we have the right to post supplementary picks - unlimited number - original picks should not be changed. If a match is not played, then the supp's will count, so there is not a reason to change the picks (except to gain advantage from big pointers in the supp's).

Another possibility is to post picks like that:
PAW 1: first singles: ITA over GER
PAW 2: first singles: USA over RUS
PAW 3: doubles: GER over ITA
PAW 4: fourth singles: RUS over USA
Thus we will not need supplementary picks (and we will also have to think if picks might be changed). This is much more complicated, because we will have to think not only which player will win in a match, but which players will most probably participate in the reverse singles, and we will need also luck. However this would be a big change.

I like suggestion 1) very much!

And 2) could just be an option as we're already doing it with double matches. But I wouldn't force anybody to post all the matches like this!
