Bojana returned home

Fifth seed of this year’s Serbia Open had her first training today on the courts of the Tennis Center Novak. Best Serbian tennis player ,Bojana Jovanovski, has got a first round BYE, and will start her campaign in the second round against the winner of the match between Russian Vera Zvonareva and Serb Vesna Dolonc.

“I am really looking forward to playing in my city in front of my home crowd. Its going to be a great event. I invite everyone to come and watch some pro tennis,” said Jovanovski.

After the practice, Bojana was signing autographs for her fans and she gave an interview to CNN television, whose crew arrived in Belgrade for the report about the best Serbian tennis player.

Serena Time

Serena Williams from the United States of America discussed her choice of tournament this week and her result in Hamburg. When asked about why she decided to go oversea after her final in Amelia Island, Serena answered: "I wanted to get some red clay practice in as soon as possible. My time in Amelia Island was awesome. Making my very first final...against my sister was an honor. I was genuinely happy for her. But it was time for me to jump to red clay and get as much practice on this surface in order to get a good preparation for Roland-Garros."

Serena was also asked about her recent performance in Hamburg, where she displayed some of her best tennis despite winning the title. "Making the semifinal is cool, but I felt so good coming off my first two matches, I definitely thought I would beat Alize. It was my tournament to win and I lost it. Next time I'll be much better under pressure. Promise . It's about time for SERENA-TIME." Serena is now expected in Belgrade, Serbia where she will partner with Heather Watson of Great Britain.

Watch out for Anne Keothavong!!
Anne's Belgrade Blog

I have arrived in Belgrade this morning. It really seems to be a wonderful city
I had pretty good start on the WWW TOUR but I'm kinda disappointed with my recent results. I was really well prepared for AO but unfortunately I got an suspension from the ITF and unfortunately couldn't play there at all. Since then I'm rarely winning more than one match per tournament but that's going to change now.I have prepared new strategy with my coach and I expect it to work well. We will see.
I also have plans to play doubles with Christina again but I didn't meet her here yet. As you can see I have had an interview with FDR today.

Re: [Who? What? Where?] - Week 13 (2012) - Belgrade (PRE)

Vera just happy to be playing.

Recently, Russian tennis player Vera Zvonareva has been having a tough time on the court, and since winning her maiden title in Cairo, has struggled to meet expectations. We caught up with her at the Belgrade event to talk about how she feels about her game and dealing with expectations.

Vera, what was it like to be the first winner of a P5 event this year?
Quote:
It was a really great week for me, and a great feeling. I had a lot of tough matches, and pulled through them all to collect my first, and to date, only title. Winning such a big event at the time, definitely built up some expectations of myself to perform.
Talking about expectations, how do you feel since then you've dealt with not achieving the same results?
Quote:
Well you know, it was tough at first, I mean missing a few weeks with a shoulder injury I picked up in Dubai, particularly just after winning my title, was tough, and to play injured at the Australian Open was a sad moment for me, as I was really looking forward to performing on a big stage. I guess regarding the expectations, I initially got frustrated that, when I reached no.3 in the world, that my performances were poor, and I couldn't capitalise on my good form. Then in Indian Wells and Miami in particular, I haven't been able to back up good wins, and that's another frustrating thing. I really began to build up a lot of pressure on myself about these losses, but I feel as though recently I've started to deal a lot better with my approach to tournaments, and the results are again coming back.
So how do you feel you'll go in Belgrade this week?
Quote:
Well, I'm looking forward to it, I mean I've just come from the green clay events, and I feel I was really close to getting to the finals there, having 3 set losses in the semis, but you know, I definitely feel like I'm closing the gap between myself and the top players now, and this week in Belgrade there is such a quality field, that this is a real indicator of who's going to perform well at the upcoming big events. I'm just really happy to be competing again, and I'm enjoying my tennis.
Looking forward, what are your goals for the remainder of the clay season?
Quote:
Well, I think a big goal of mine is to get back into the top 10. I've been around 11 and 12 for a few weeks now and I really feel being back there is such a good thing. I also want to continue to make the latter stages of events, so I'm looking to hopefully get a few more SFs and Fs and you know, winning a tournament would be nice too.

Re: [Who? What? Where?] - Week 13 (2012) - Belgrade (PRE)

Misa Krajicek looking to end losing streak in Belgrade

WWW World Number 1, Michaella Krajicek, has had an up and down season so far. The big-serving Dutchwoman started off well, reaching the final in Cape Town, winning Dubai and capturing her 1st Grand Slam title at the Australian Open. However, she had numerous early exits in her last tournaments, being beaten by Serena Williams and Melanie Oudin in her last 2 matches on the green clay.

Quote:
Misa, How are you doing at the moment?
Apart from the loss of form I'm experiencing I'm fine, thank you

Quote:
Have you prepared for this tournament any differently, comparing to your last 2 tournaments?
Well, Belgrade is a red clay tournament. Amelia Island and Charleston are green clay tournaments, and the difference in surfaces is pretty considerable. The ball is moving a slower than on the green clay. Looking at that, it may be a disadvantage for me. I like grass and indoors the best, but I will try anyway to return to form here

Quote:
Why do you prefer grass and indoor courts to clay courts?
My weapons are just a lot more effective on fast surfaces. My serve is less effective on the clay, and I like to play aggressively with my groundstrokes. That's hard on clay, where you have to play long points and run a lot. I'm still working on my fitness but that's definitely one of the aspects I could improve on.

Quote:
Do you change your strategy on a clay court?
Not really, I still try to keep to points as short as possible. I try to add some spin to my groundstrokes to pull my opponents out wide, so I can finish off at the net. We'll see how that works out this week

Quote:
What are your thoughts on the draw?
I have a bye in the 1st round so that gives me some time to keep practising hard and getting the details right. 2nd round vs. Petkovic or Jankovic. I don't remember playing either of them. Both of them are tough opponents, so I will have to bring my A-game. I hope I'll manage to do just that

Thanks for the interview and good luck!
