Re: Babos Timea

Wow she won on her birthday :hearts:. And saved two match points. I know it's a dream, but it would be awesome if Timea and Blanka could grow up and be a great Fed Cup team with Ági.

12 May 2009 - Edinburgh, Great Britain - Nick Fishpool

Birthday girl takes Edinburgh title

Timea Babos, Hungary’s World Number 3 in the Junior rankings, celebrated her 16th birthday with victory in the singles final of a $10,000 tournament in Edinburgh, Scotland. En route to the final, Babos rather comfortably swept aside all who opposed her on court in straight sets, including a semi final win over 7th seed, Volha Duko from Belarus. In the final she took on Britain’s Naomi Broady, the tournament’s No. 1 seeded player and looked to be on course for yet another straight sets victory when she took the opening set 64. Broady, however, fought back to level the match with a 7-3 tiebreak success in the second set. With both players now just one set away from victory another very close set was played out and was eventually won by Babos 10-8 on a tiebreak. Babos’ 64 67(3) 76(8) win in this final, which was held up on several occasions due to rain, gave her a first career singles title on the ITF Pro Circuit in what was only her second professional tournament.

The previous week, Babos had made her debut on the ITF Pro Circuit in a $10,000 tournament in Bournemouth on England’s south-coast. Babos, winner of four junior singles and nine junior doubles titles (from Sept 2006- April 2009) and who was part of the Hungarian Junior Fed Cup squad who finished 3rd in 2008, won through to the singles main draw via the qualifying event without losing a set. She maintained this form in the singles main draw and soon found herself in the semi finals. Here she faced Germany’s Lena-Marie Hofmann in a match which she just edged 76(4) 76(3) to make the final. Despite taking the opening set, Babos’ hopes of winning the title in her debut tournament were ended by another German player, Svenja Weideman, with a three set defeat in the final, 46 63 64. Glory did come her way however in the doubles event. With her British partner Stephanie Cornish, the doubles title was won when they were awarded victory in the final by walkover.

Timea defeat Kirillova in second round
There's an interesting aftermatch interview here

http://sporthirado.hu/videok.php?videoid=1047

some key things

She goes to GB to train on grass just after RG. She won't play in any tournament until Wimbledon, and after Wimbledon she'll play in a 10k grass tournament.

Her wishlist 2009 is win a GS at least, and be number one ;)

Come on Tímea!

Re: Babos Timea

What ever happened to her sister? She was featured in a tennis magazine I suscribed to a few years ago and I read about her and now nothing. Did she retire?:tears:
