Angelique van der Meet (NED) lost to Katalin Marosi (HUN) 4-6 6-7(4)
Well, that was interesting. 20-year old Dutch 'promise' against the 31-year old veteran. Angelique has a great game sometimes (very inconsistent), but her lack of mental strength is her biggest issue. She just gave it all away and Katalin took advantage with all her experience. Angelique lead 4-0 in the 1st. Then she broke down, screaming at her self when she got broken the second time in a row. Then it got worse and the set was gone
Second set was even worse. She didn't look like she still wanted to win this and Katalin was always a break up in the second set. A great shot (or 2) by Angelique was usually followed by strange shot decisions and other weird UE's. Of course the crowd was behind her, and suddenly, when Marosi was serving for the match at *5-3, she found her momentum again. After a few nice shots the crowd cheered loudly for her. Surprisingly she made it till the tiebreak and easily played herself to a 4-0 lead. Everybody made themselves ready for a third set when, well
, I don't knAow what happened. Another mental breakdown by Angelique. She couldn't control herself, such a tension in her shots. Marosi got back to 4-4 and Angelique had one serve left. After she lost the point she got out of control and hit a ball over the fence with a scream. Of course she already had a few warnings for both racket AND ball abuse, so now she got a penalty point. Marosi served the match out with a unholdable serve at 4-6* and then it was over
Angelique has potential but she really needs to work on her mental,, really
Katalin was just relaxed on court all the time and you can see she has lost some of her strength (no real weapons), but today, it was enough.
van der Meet/Bertens (NED) lost to Babilon/Marosi (GER/HUN) 6-3 0-6 5-7
Not much to say about this one. Missed most of the first set. they lead 3-0 and 4-1 and consolidated their lead. 2nd set they got down 0-3 quickly. Then there was an injury time out for Kiki Bertens. When she finally got back they "gave up" the set, but in the third it was the same story. Babilon and Marosi, the latter really being the better one of the two, lead 0-3 and 3-5 and served for the match. Right at that moment the Dutch girls had a small resurrection, the crowd carrying them back to 5-5. Then I had to leave to catch the train but the match was lost quickly, it seems.
