Re: US/Canada Swing (D-Day)

She played some of the worst tennis of her career this week so, as Misty said, it's a miracle she was even in the final, still it's sad to see her lose yet another big final.

Stats wise, I can't remember her ever hitting so many errors in a two set match, and she hit 22 unforced errors in the 1st set of her SF too.

Who knows where she is going to go from here. Fingers crossed that a switch will flip and she'll start playing well again, like in Osaka last year.

One thing is sure though- she needs to fix her scheduling. I believe she's set to play in Canada, Cincinatti and New Haven. It's just way too much and will probably kill any chance of her having a decent US Open result.

Re: US/Canada Swing (D-Day)

Montreal draw out.

R1 - BYE
R2 - Peng/Q
R3 - Kvitova/Pervak/Q
QF - Azarenka/Lisicki

Not a bad draw til the quarter finals. Azarenka was in London til yesterday so may not take this too seriously. And we all know how bad Petra can be on the hardcourts... Draw could have been worse, I'd take Petra over Stosur or Wozniacki from that bracket of 5-8.

Great score against a tricky opponent for Marion. Petra next. Good chance for the upset, Petra was atrocious against Pervak.

Re: US/Canada Swing (D-Day)

definately a really good chance for the upset here. Petra is so up and down though, sometimes it seems like she shouldnt be beating anyone , she plays like shit and then she'll come out and play GOAT and then in her next match she'll play shit again.

obviously im hoping the petra that plays like garbage shows up

Re: US/Canada Swing (D-Day)

Her worst tennis ever right now. So many double faults and unforced errors. So sad to see as a fan.

She looked completely deflated today and, of course, it doesn't help that Petra played one of her best ever US Open series matches.

I really think she shouldn't play until the US Open.

I knew this day was coming. I just did not realise it would be as bad as it is.

Re: US/Canada Swing (D-Day)

What little energy she had left was all used up in Carlsbad.

The scheduling needs to be rectificed pronto. I couldn't bear her descending into JJ territory

Re: US/Canada Swing (D-Day)

I hear that. The thing with Marion is that she has never been able to achieve consistantly good results at any time in her career. She is always ranked highly based on 3-4 good performances spaced out in the year with 14 other reasonable performances making up the rest. There have been so many times since 2007 that I thought she was going to fall out of the top 20 and dissapear into oblivion but she never has. I have to assume that this time will be no different.

Re: US/Canada Swing (D-Day)

The heat is taking a lot of casulties in Cincy, possibly Marion was somewhat affected too, especially given her past history This loss is just so bizarre.

Re: US/Canada Swing (D-Day)

Her half of the draw at New Haven:

(5)Marion Bartoli (FRA) v (wc)Laura Robson (GBR)
Sloane Stephens (USA) v Tamira Paszek (AUT)
Agnes Szavay (HUN) v Carla Suarez Navarro (ESP)
(wc)Bethanie Mattek-Sands (USA) v (4)Sara Errani (ITA)

(8)Lucie Safarova (CZE) v Varvara Lepchenko (USA)
Tsvetana Pironkova (BUL) v Jie Zheng (CHN)
Q v Q
(2/wc)Petra Kvitova (CZE) v BYE

If shes going to get ANYTHING going before NY, this is the draw to do it. Very, very soft. Doubt Petra will play.

I see your point, Ferg, but I believe she played a night match, or at least late on in the evening.

As for the New Haven draw, I agree that it's soft, and Laura really hasn't show much on the American hardcourts, but I guess I can't be too peeved if Marion loses.

Paszek/Stepehns in the second round could be a very tough one.
