From green to red clay

From WTA, upcoming Marion's schedule for clay tourney is :
- Charleston : premier
- Stuttgart : premier
- Madrid : premier mandatory
- Roland Garros : GS

She would skip Rome compared to last year.

Re: From green to red clay

Good schedule. No use tiring herself out on that stuff before her real season begins.

Depending on draws... I would aim for 8 clay wins this year hopefully. Points to defend in Charelston and Stuttgart, a good decision to play Charlston I think, and though Stuttgart is a hard field, she will do better than most clay tournaments because of the indoors. Cutting Rome out of her schedule was a clever idea.

Re: From green to red clay

I remember Marion to say last year that Roma clay was too slow. So, she will have a week off between Stuttgart and Madrid where she could earn many points.

Re: From green to red clay

I think that the idea this time is to go to defend ranking points before Madrid and RG. She cannot take the risk of a slight fall in the ranking before the 2 major events, because it is slow clay, you know, slow clay.

Re: From green to red clay

Since she doesn't play Rome, she has to play Charleston!
Quite a smart schedule I think. She should be relatively fresh for the grass season.
Hope for a better fortune than last year on clay!

You're right : http://www.polskitenis.eu/

As Warsaw entry list is not very competitive (Marion seed 3), it's certainly a good way to earn points.

Re: From green to red clay

Its a strange decision. Playing both weeks before RG. I prefer her to play Warsaw to Rome though. And you're right Lighter, a good way to earn points. I suppose if she does well at Madrid () she wont play it.

Re: From green to red clay

I guess that it's also a decision to be far from french journalists just before Roland Garros. For example, last year, she made some clinics and spoke many times to journalists.

Warsaw is a good town to avoid any pressure.

Re: From green to red clay

Yeah Warsaw isn't a bad idea! It's perfect as a back-up plan in case of bad results the weeks before. Plus she got to the 4th round in 2007 after reaching Strasbourg SF. So it could work again!

Re: From green to red clay

Yeah, that makes sense about the journalists. This way, shes avoiding a week of pressure in Paris building up on here, she'll avoud it all in Warsaw. And, 3rd seed in a premier? Thats good.

Re: From green to red clay

As Warsaw courts are slow, i also think that Marion will be more prepared for Roland Garros.

Funny to read from Andy Roddick's coach that Central court is much more faster than Suzanne Lenglen one : "un véritable bac à sables".

Re: From green to red clay

Clay is boring;it's better used for making pottery than playing a tennis match. Also,it's pretty dorky that they only have two colors. Why not make some blue or sterling silver clay to spice up that slow-ass surface?Anyway,Dinara is hurt,Elena's biological clock is distracting her,and Ana is still trying to wake up from a mental coma....So Marion will probably be my only Queen for this clay season.VAMOS,Marion!!!

WTA suffering from Dementieva withdrawal, a lack of true queens

Congrats on Number Three, Kim! We need more of you in this world

Re: From green to red clay

Marion will be he 5th seed in Charleston. Many big names have withdrawn which could make Marion's fortune.
I don't expect a title here but defend her SF points don't appear as such a foolish idea anymore!

Re: From green to red clay

Pity that one more person couldnt withdraw. Still, she could easily make the QF here if she gets a nice draw.
