Yes,she can surely REACH the Top 10,but there's a difference between reaching a ranking and solidifying a position. To clarify, you can see a very slight drop-off in caliber of play when you compare A.Radwanska,Petrova and Pennetta to the upper elite.I don't want to see Marion simply collect enough ranking points to be #8,9 or 10;I'd rather she attained a level of excellence where she regularly threatened at the important events as she did at Wimbledon 2007.A reliable serve will make this a MUCH stronger possibility

Marion's next opponent will be world no 105 Melinda Czink. She beat Bondarenko 7-6 6-1.
Allez!

Re: Marion's Australian secret dream

Well maybe not that easier for Marion since she won 4 matches this week ... She must feel pretty confident!
But indeed it shouldn't be very tough, even though Czink did score a couple of upsets. Marion will be fine, allez .

Re: Marion's Australian secret dream

Marion is so unpredictable. If she's confident, has no head injury, she should beat Melinda Czink. Remember Auckland 2006'.

She'll play this night on court n°2 after Kleybanova's match.

Re: Marion's Australian secret dream

Marion is in Qf and will play Tathiana Garbin. I woke up at 2-1 2nd set. She easily won all serve games and the 3rd set was easy. I don't know what happened during 1st set. But job is done vs player with 4 wins in a row.

5-7 6-3 6-1

Re: Marion's Australian secret dream

i say what i said in GM again; it was obvious that czink had come through qualies and was match hardened, it seemed like either she was serving great or marions return was not so good today, probably it was a bit of both. What is good to see is that Marion improved with every game, rather than the other way around, and from the first set it was always in her control.

allez marion! QF c'est ce que je voulais voir et un match contre garbin c'est presque déjà gagné

As I implied before, the 2nd round of a main draw is about as far as Czink can usually go.She's easy on the eyes, but also easy prey for our Marion.Once our gal woke up from her 1st set nap,she didn't face ONE SINGLE BREAK POINT.Garbin is a seasoned vet;however,a strong-serving Marion would be a decisive victor....VAMONOS,Marion!!

Re: Marion's Australian secret dream

Serve was a bit all of the over place, but most of the doubles came in the 1st set. In the end, the percentages won behind serve were very good.

Garbin next. The draw has really played out quite nicely for Marion. Hopefully she takes this opportunity and gets to the semis.

Yeah I agree, Melinda had more matches than Marion, she was better prepared than her. Such a scoreline doesn't surprise nor scare me. Im even pleased that she had to fight for her win, that's always what a player needs to find rhythm. A bit of pression in a match won't hurt her before a Grand Slam!

Marion said conditions on Court n°2 were a bit different from the Central Court hence her inability to consistently break her opponent's serve. Apart of that it has been pretty convincing, her serve didn't let her down. It would only be better if she could raise her 1st serve percentage .
Now the tournament is going step by step, Marion will face her first top 100 opponent of the year. Garbin looks pretty in-form, it will surely be a more competitive match than their last encounter but I hope she won't miss the opportunity of going further (and taking the 16th seed in the Australian Open)

Allez baby

Re: Marion's Australian secret dream

Doctor Bartoli is really a funny coach. This story comes from "l'équipe" paper version :

After 5 played games vs Melina Czink, Marion called for her coach. What did he say to her daughter ? :

"Marion was a bit too slow and back to back. I told her that she(Czink) liked to think too much she's Sharapova and it certainly won't last."

And it worked. The only remaining problem was the stickers not very well suited on shirt, especially when she served.

Re: Marion's Australian secret dream

Job done : 6-3 6-3

Marion seems to be confident. I still hate these 2nd set starts when she's still around the stars.

But she's not tired . Hope a good match vs Amélie.

Re: Marion's Australian secret dream

Marion played very well overall!
I was a bit scared at the beginning when she was hitting every ball so flat again. Marion noticed it wasn't effective at all and asked for advice to Walter. Then she totally cruised. She was still hitting as hard but with more spin. She really had Garbin staying far from the baseline afterwards... That's how I love Marion. With the acceleration the balls make after the first rebound, her game becomes so penetrating. I'm really impressed by her control and her calm.
Garbin is a great fighter, Marion couldn't overpower her easily but she did very well to dictate the rally so as she gets the mistake first. Serve and return are looking perfect, we finally had them effective in the same time . There are 7 DFs to deplore though, due to the risk she is taking on the 2nd serve. Not that important compared to the rest of her game.

It's also the best preparation she could ask to play Amélie. Two one-handed backhands, Marion managed to deal with the topspin and slice mix. We'll have an exciting match!!! I don't think I can watch it though because of uni. Too bad but I will surely have a chance to see her more given the top quality of her tennis
Bravo to Marion, great performance! Allez baby, show who's the boss
