Smile Sun will shine for Marion in the Middle East!

As often, Marion's injury was not so worrying and she is already back on tennis courts. She had one good week to recover. On the last pictures I saw, Marion looks a bit fitter. I really hope she is working on her shape, I'm sure that all her injuries stem from a lack of fitness. On the other side, she is certainly not used yet to her new serve hence her back problems, she is serving way faster than before, her body has to deal with it.

Anyway, we will see how she is doing in Doha:

(4) Sharapova - Bye
K.Bondarenko vs Daniilidou
(WC) Kerber vs Q
(WC) Lisicki vs (14) Mauresmo

(10) Petrova vs Medina Garrigues
Kirilenko vs Q
Chan vs Wozniacki
(8) Bartoli - Bye

Her first match should be a nice way to enter the tournament. Caro can be tough, but Marion will probably kill her with her returns of serve . Then I don't know who to expect ... yet she should make it safely to the QF if she is fine. A match against Maria would be a positive test then, it's probably her goal for the week!

Allez Marion!!!!!!!!

Re: Sun will shine for Marion in the Middle East!

I just want her to get to the QF and have a chance at Maria for now. She shouldn't lose to any of the players she has in her section, but she could lose if she doesn't play well.

Alleez Marion!!! It would be great to reach the qf here against Maria.
More important is to get back into last year's playing form which was already noticeable in Paris.

Marion will start her Doha campaign against Caroline Wozniacki, who beat Yung-Jan Chan 3-6 6-2 6-3. She took just over 2 hours to win, so hopefully that works in Marion's favour if they play tommorow. Good luck Marion!

This match should be on Centre!

Marion is currently 2-5 down though.

More rain than sun for Marion. She lost in a horrible way to Wozniacki 62 63.
Total slump due to bad fitness and zero confidence. Still no great results since Wimbledon .
Please work on your shape!!!

I´ve seen you really fight to win matches Marion that you should always do cuz that makes losing acceptable.

Re: Sun will shine for Marion in the Middle East!

Hi Iceland,

You keep talking about Marion's physical condition. But how can you tell she isnt fit? Can you read so much just by looking at someone? Ok, if someone is several stone overweight then maybe you can. It's obvious, when someone is that shape.

However, unless you have special insight I am not privvy to friend, then are you not just being a little subjective with your opinion? Are you not just being influenced by forum culture.. 'Marion cake this.. Candy that.. Bla bla bla.'

I know you are supportive of Marion in competition. But more evidence is needed to support your impression regarding her fitness.

Respect to you.

Re: Sun will shine for Marion in the Middle East!

I am not saying that Marion is fat just as people on General Messages do, still, I don't think she is perfectly fit. She said herself that she is training more on her game than on her shape. Since this period, she has lost so many matches after having won the first set or suffered from injuries. The most obvious answer is to me that she is not fit enough to play her best tennis during a whole tournament.
She said for today's loss that she didn't have enough time to train because of her back injury & some illness. I believe her.

When I say fitness problems, it's not a question of movement for me, I am more worried about her inabality to play well back-to-back events & her little physical problems. She needs to strengthen her body, she is not old, she shouldn't have those little injuries all the time.
I am not a tennis specialist, so I can't really say ... I just want the best for Marion .

Re: Sun will shine for Marion in the Middle East!

She has lost matches in that fashion, as you say. But I dont see a correlation between that, and her fitness.

I dont want to sound boring by repeating myself but if we want to talk about results then we should just look at the exponential improvement in her ranking year on year. And the fact that last season was her best so far (despite starting unpromisingly).

I dont consider her injuries the result of a LACK of fitness. But if anything, the result of HYPER-fitness!

What I am saying is that what some people are attributing as fat, is in fact muscle. Muscularity and injury are correlated. And where she has been host to fat cells before, those cells have since been converted to muscle.

Force activities encourages the development of new blood vessels, and actually use fat tissue as the building blocks of muscle tissue. In other words fat is literally converted to muscle.

This is the process I think Marion has underwent. It's a difficult trade off. Muscle bulk has advantages and disadvantages. She seems to be trying to get more power on her serve.

As for back to back consistency. Players of a similar rank go through that. As has been said, it's probably more mental than physical. Although I do think that cold events are better for Marion than hot.

Thanks Iceland for the explanation, and speedy reply I always find you a thought provoking poster.

Re: Sun will shine for Marion in the Middle East!

Maybe you're right! In any case, I really hope she stops being injured so often ... there must be a solution! It's really embarrassing to see her losing 2 & 3 to a player outside the top 50 - even though Caroline is talented. But indeed, Marion is looking for confidence ; in that respect, I think she should have played Memphis instead of Dubaï. She will be seeded there of course, but the field is so strong that she could face Serena Williams, Nicole Vaidisova or Patty Schnyder in R1 . I can't see her going far in such conditions . I am hoping to be wrong though .
Concerning the warm events, you're absolutely right.

Thanks as well, Super-Marion! You are bringing some optimism & freshness here .

Re: Sun will shine for Marion in the Middle East!

Well, since we're being honest about NOT being doctors,I'll offer the possibility that certain fracture-related injuries, even when they heal well enough to allow normal activity, leave the affected area vulnerable to the extent that FUTURE injuries in that same part of the body are more likely. This takes into account Iceland's observation that there've been too many injuries while also acknowledging Super M's comment that Marion has actually gotten in BETTER shape recently(in contrast with the 'fatso' remarks which stream from ill-informed idiots).I've seen American team sports athletes who were in SUPERB physical condition yet continued to get hurt over and over again...let's hope that our Queen doesn't encounter this.

Given Hantuchova's recent health setbacks and losses--and Serena's inactivity--this is prime time for Marion to solidify her ranking.Fortunately,we're still early in the year and she has plenty of opportunities to turn this around.

Re: Sun will shine for Marion in the Middle East!

Dubai draw has been released.

Marion is seeded 7th. She will first play Schiavone, and then either Bammer or a qualifier. Likely QF meeting with Henin.

Good luck Marion!

Good luck Marion! At least make the quarters. Then you can avenge your Madrid loss in the QF - Justine's not in super form...
