Other Romanians to look out for - Ungur, Buzarnescu, Andrei, Damaschin
Instead of posting a new cheering thread for each Romanian, we'll keep track of them all here until they do enough to earn their own thread (something I don't feel Dabija or Begu has done yet, but to each his own).
Quick question -or so I hope!- about Nicoleta Dascalu making the semis at the 10k Antalya tournament. It looks like the 6 pts she would get here based on making it this far should be enough to get her in the top 1000. Is that right or did I miss some rule that would prevent that from happening?
Nicoleta is currently ranked 1007, with her semifinal appearance in Antalya this week, she'll be ranked around 870 or better on September 23 (ITF points awarded in lower than 50K tournaments are added after 2 weeks).
Benefits of late withdrawals and location. It's nice to see a Romanian girl take advantage of this --for a change .
Nicoleta Dascalu made the QF in Heraklion, so I didn't jinx her by saying it was a winnable match.
Nicoleta Dascalu (Rou) d. Lauren McMinn (Gbr) 6-4 6-2
Patricia Tig and Raluca Platon are both in the singles semifinals in Antalya. I never saw Tig before, but she looks *a lot* like Simona Halep in this picture. Maybe she can start playing like her .
In this photo I admit she looks a bit like Simona, but the physical resemblance stops here Patricia is thinner and taller than Simona (she is 1m82 tall). But she's a sweet girl and she's definitely a fighter. Was as high as no. 393 in the WTA Rankings, but then she had some back problems (yeah, just like Simona), and her 2013 season was pretty much a fiasco. But she will definitely be at least a top 50 player if she stays healthy.
Btw, Ioana, she has her own thread on Tennis Romania

An year with 8 top 10 wins for our girls is amazing. You can see once again what impressive was Sorana at Toronto with 3 top 10 wins plus one against Jankovic (nr 15 at that time, in top 10 now).
Is the Ioana Bogdan who went to Antalya and is playing doubles with Ana related to her? She seems to be from Sinaia, too based on her twitter account, so I would think that's a real possibility?
She has no points left to defend this year & will get her 4 pts from last week's quarters added on . Has she been injured since Mamaia? Aug-Oct seem like random months to take off otherwise.
Didn't expect Platon to win a set against Queen Anna (even on clay), but good for her!
And, I second the for Bianca. Not a bad outing for her first tournament back after a long layoff.
