Re: Alexandra Dulgheru!!!

I love her, but this loss is a huge disappointment

And frankly, I have no idea where she's headed right now. Tennis-wise. She only has 3 more SR entries left (using one for US Open and another one for Guangzhou as Curcubeu said), and her ranking is almost as bad as it was at the beginning of the year. Once she'll run out of the SR advantage, she won't even get near the qualies of WTA events, let alone those of Grand Slams. Unfortunately I was right in March predicting that she won't be in top 100 by the end of this year when others already saw her inside top 30 again

Wake up, Alex!

Re: Alexandra Dulgheru!!!

I wouldn't panic in that regard.

Just look at Petkovic where people were the same when she flopped early in the RG Qualifying. She entered Nurnberg as a WC, went on to the finals and her ranking was back on track.

If she can get her game going, the ranking will do as well. And by looking at that pathetic excuse that are those clay MMs after Wimbledon, honestly, I don't see her having much doubt to not enter the Top 100 again.

We are talking about a player who entered Top 100 being ranked around 200 the week prior.

Re: Alexandra Dulgheru!!!

Not qualifying for RG was an accident for Petkovic who even fancied retirement from tennis after that loss, but who after that did pretty well and reached 2 finals. Alexandra reached 3 main draws and she lost in the first round in two of them. I think the comparison between AP & AD is not the best one at this moment.

But yeah, I deeply wish her all the best in the future tournaments! Who knows? Maybe losing today 1&2 with Arvidsson is a good sign that she'll reach the semifinals of the US Open

Re: Alexandra Dulgheru!!!

One more thing: Petko was 9th in the world and she's been handed Wild Cards because of that status and because she's German & tournaments are organized in Germany. I don't see anybody except for Tiriac giving Alexandra Wild Cards. Don't see any WTA or even 100K ITF tournaments held in Romania in the next future either. Sad, but true. Opportunities will always come for players like Petkovic, but only sometimes for players like Alex

Re: Alexandra Dulgheru!!!

I am not that worried about her rankings because the way I view it is if she plays well that will take care of itself. The concern I have is still about her health. If those knees are still not at full strength than that could be a problem.

Exactly.

In a time where 30 year old Meusburger is reaching back to back WTA finals by just keeping the ball in play for most parts, I'm surely not worried about Alexandra's ranking.

Her health is what worries me most.

Re: Alexandra Dulgheru!!!

let's not even compare Petko and Alex because the stories of the two and the actual abilities are completely differnt Andrea is a player that reached much more than her potential thanks to hard work and hard work only, most of her injuries were due to the same reason: over-working. She was winning matches only thanks to her physical shape and everything reguarding her is built, so it's expected that sooner or later she would start getting injured.
Alex on the other hand has a lot of talent and her physical injuries are not due to over-working, but other issues and a fair bit of bad luck...she's the kind of player that if she's retiring today would have achieved much less than her talent might have given her (though 2 premier titles are something huge).

As Aaron said though, I wouldn't be as negative, I am sure she only needs time and confidence

may your choices reflect your hopes not your fears.

Not the easiest draw possible, but not bad. An in-form Alexandra could give a tough match to Ana, but let's her win the first round and break again top 200.

Re: Alexandra Dulgheru!!!

Not the easiest section, but not the most difficult either. On a good day she can beat Lepchenko.

Re: Alexandra Dulgheru!!!

Not a very good draw in my opinion.
Lepchenko is tough, moves OK and is a leftie.

Re: Alexandra Dulgheru!!!

Bad luck for Alexandra again in my opinion. Lepchenko has been playing pretty well since the hard court season started.
